Summary: Snape has made some changes to the wolfsbane potion, with semi-unexpected results.
Characters: Lupin/Snape
Rating: Um, hard R?
Word count: 1083
A/N: Thanks to long-suffering beta Ollopa! Inspired by a line from the_senjou’s "Primary Care", and I inadvertently stole a line from Amanuensis. It was supposed to be humor, but I just can't seem to get away from the angst.
Coincidental incident: Turns out that this fic can be considered a response to M&W challenge # 138: Is it possible? Could Snape really have made a mistake in one of his potions? Lupin suffers the consequences, whatever they are (can be good or bad). So I’m submitting it here first! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I was beginning to think you weren’t coming."

Snape scowled. "I’ve made some changes." He thrust the goblet at Lupin, then snatched his hand back when their fingers threatened to touch. Lupin pretended not to notice.

"Why? It's been working fine every month."

"Some of us aren't satisfied with 'fine'. I've added a few new ingredients which should ease your transformation."

Lupin blinked. "That's kind of you, Severus, thank you." Snape snorted.

"Don’t thank me yet." He crossed his arms over his chest as he watched Lupin sniff cautiously at the goblet then look up, nearly smiling.

"So what exactly have you added? For once, it doesn’t smell half bad."

"For Salazar's sake, Lupin, just drink it. We—, you haven’t got all night." Snape turned away to glare pointedly at the clock.

Lupin sniffed the potion again, then tipped the contents down his throat and waited for the shudder caused by the usual foul aftertaste. It never came. He broke into a grin. "It's good! I can hardly believe it. You've made wolfsbane taste good. Snape, you’re a genius!"

"Kind of you to state the obvious. But before you start humping my leg in excitement," he sneered, still looking at the clock, "I need to tell you that there may be some side-effects."

The smile fell off of Lupin's face. "Well, thanks for telling me beforehand! What sort of side-effects are we talking about, here, anyway?" He frowned when Snape wouldn't meet his eyes.

"The new ingredients...." Snape cleared his throat and started again. "The wolfsbane should counteract any of their more...volatile...properties, but there's a very slight possibility that it won't."

Lupin noticed that Snape had not only sidestepped the question, but now appeared slightly flushed. "What exactly are these new ingredients, Severus?" His tone was mild and controlled, but Snape took a step away from him.

"Various opiates, mints, and tropical plant oils." Snape spoke casually but still would not look at him, and began to edge toward the door. "I'm sure you'll be fine. So. I'll be off, then."

Lupin blocked his path, far from satisfied with any of Snape’s replies. "I don't transform for another four hours," he said, just as casually. "Why don't you stay for awhile? I can make us some dinner, and we can—" He broke off, head bent and eyes closed. Snape looked over at him and winced.

"Dammit. Lupin, I swear I did not intend this to happen, no matter how much—"

"What....what have you done?" Lupin swayed a bit and Snape caught his arm, steadying him.

"Do you feel faint? Nauseated? Please tell me you’re going to be sick. That would be much better than—"

"No, I'm not...I feel better." Lupin continued to lean on Snape, breathing heavily. "I feel okay now. In fact," he said thoughtfully, rolling his head around and stretching his neck, "I feel good." He smiled. "Really good, almost like...." He went still, then his eyes snapped open to fix on Snape, who released his arm and took a step back, nearly stumbling. Lupin wasn’t smiling anymore. "Is this your idea of a joke?"

"Lupin, it's not what you think." Seeing the wildness in Lupin's face and his dilated pupils, Snape tried to move back further, but he wasn't quick enough. Lupin's hands shot out, one grabbing the front of Snape's robes and the other wrapping around the back of his neck.

"It's exactly what I think," he snarled into Snape’s ear. Snape tried to pull away; Lupin tightened his grip. "Tropical plant oils, my arse. Tell me the truth, Severus." His tongue snaked out and licked the edge of Snape's ear. Snape moaned and shuddered, but remained where he was.

"All right, yes, it's an aphrodisiac." He spoke quickly and evenly, despite Lupin licking a wide, wet path down his neck. "I had hoped that the wolfsbane would counteract those properties and that you'd simply enjoy the benefit of the improved flavor and ease of transformation, but obviously — God! Lupin, stop!"

Lupin had moved his hands down to grip Snape's arse and had been rubbing a very hard erection into his hip. He growled, tightening his fingers for a moment, then shoved Snape away. "Get out."

"Lupin—"

"I can't stop, and you bloody well know that. I'm just surprised you waited until I was here alone; it would have been so much more amusing to humiliate me in front of an audience." He turned away, rubbing himself through his trousers. He swore loudly when Snape began speaking again.

"Lupin, I honestly thought that it would not have this effect on you—"

"Right." His hand began to move faster. "Get out!"

"—but it has, and I know you can't stop, so I should simply have asked you to slow down." Snape stepped forward, pulling Lupin's hand away and replacing it with his own. Three smooth, hard strokes and his tongue sliding into Lupin's mouth was all it took, and Lupin came, gasping and bucking. Snape held him up until he seemed to be able to stand on his own, then leaned back to look into his face.

"Better?"

Lupin's eyes opened and he glared, still shaking and panting. "No," he snapped, trying to catch his breath. "I told you to get out. I don't need a pity grope." He tried to jerk out of Snape’s grip but was held tight.

Snape spoke calmly. "Lupin, you know I don't do pity." He brought his lips close to Lupin's ear. "Do you have any idea how many times I indulged in solitary pleasure while making this potion, thinking about what was in it? Thinking about how you might behave if it went wrong?" His voice had dropped to a whisper. "Wondering, in that case, if it would make you desperate enough to—" He suddenly went still, then released Lupin and stepped away from him. "This is...I'm...I apologize for my...misjudgment in brewing this month's potion, and I promise that it will be the usual ingredients from now on."

"No." Lupin slid an arm around Snape’s waist and growled in pleasure as his still-hard cock rubbed against the bulge in the other man’s trousers, making Snape gasp. "You can make it the same as you did this time, on the condition," he continued, starting to undo the buttons on Snape's frockcoat, "that you bring it yourself."

"I believe that can be arranged," Snape murmured as he let himself be dragged toward the bedroom.
