"Tim, are you sure that this was the right place to come for the kind of book we're looking for?" Jimmy murmured, glancing around him. He had never been in a sex shop before -- and the fact that this one catered to gay men made him more than a little uncomfortable.

Not that there was anything wrong with an alternative lifestyle, as long as it was practiced by consenting adults, Jimmy told himself as he tried not to look at the leather bondage gear that seemed far too close to him for comfort. It just wasn't his style.

Still, Tim would look hot in leather. He couldn't help looking at the costume with thoughts of Tim wearing it going through his mind. What would his boyfriend say if he suggested something like that? It didn't seem like that would really be Tim's style, either.

Tearing his gaze away from the expanse of black leather, Jimmy forced himself to concentrate on what they had come here for. Tim was already heading for the selection of books near the back of the place; Jimmy's eyes widened as he followed his boyfriend to the reading area.

He hadn't expected it to look this nice, this .... inviting. There were a few chairs near the shelves of books, and what looked like a comfortable couch for anyone who wanted to peruse any of the books. It looked just like the kinds of bookshops he was used to being in.

Jimmy let out a breath that he almost hadn't known he was holding; it came out in a soft whoosh of sound, making Tim turn around to look at him with raised brows. Jimmy could feel the blush stealing into his cheeks; he had to tell his boyfriend why he'd been holding his breath.

"I just didn't expect it to be so .... normal," he murmured, hoping that no one who worked here could hear him. He had to stop thinking of places like this as less than normal. After all, he would probably be spending some time here in the future.

He was fairly sure that he and Tim would come back to this place; it already seemed as though his lover had seen some things that had interested him. And if this was the kind of place that Tim wanted to spend time in, then he would be right along for the ride.

Actually, he was starting to feel comfortable here, Jimmy thought as he went to one of the bookshelves and starting looking at titles. Some of them made his cheeks flush again, but he'd read enough erotica not to feel too embarrassed by what he was seeing.

This didn't seem to be the right shelf; there were no book about how to make love to a gay man here. He turned to Tim, opening his mouth to ask a question, then saw that his boyfriend was looking through a book that made Jimmy's cheeks flame fire-engine red.

He caught sight of the title when Tim moved his hand slightly -- it was The Gay Kama Sutra. Uh oh. Not at all what he had in mind for their first few times making love. Maybe they could get creative later, but for the moment, those illustrations looked kind of ....scary.

"Tim, you might want to remember that I'm not a contortionist," Jimmy told his boyfriend, hoping that he didn't look as worried as he felt. If that was the kind of thing that Tim expected from him, then their sex life might be over before it even began.

"I know that," Tim replied, looking up from the book with wide eyes. "I was just wondering what it'd be like to try out some of those positions. After we get used to making love in the .... the more normal ones. We've got to start out slow, y'know."

"My sentiments exactly," Jimmy told him, a relieved smile spreading over his face. "I wish a title would just jump out at me, and it'd be the perfect book, just what we're looking for," he said as he moved closer to the shelf to look at the titles. "But that's not happening."

"Can I help you two find something?" One of the clerks was there, just behind Tim, a friendly smile on his face. "If you can give me some kind of description of what you're looking for, then maybe I can help you find it, if we've got it on our shelves."

"We're looking for a book that tells us .... errr, how to .... how to make love for the first time. For two guys," Tim added hastily. Jimmy noted that his boyfriend's cheeks were now flaming red; it was Tim's turn to be embarrassed by what he was saying.

"We're, ummm, new at this," Jimmy added, feeling the blush flare back into his own cheeks. He didn't know why they should feel so embarrassed about this; after all, they were a loving couple, just like anyone else. It shouldn't matter that they were both men.

"There's no right or wrong way to go about it, you know," the clerk told them with a smile. "You just do what feels good for both of you -- and I'm guessing you already know about the mechanics. It's just a matter of being comfortable and feeling that you're both ready."

Jimmy and Tim nodded in unison, neither of them realizing that they were doing so. When Jimmy did, he blushed even more deeply, moving closer to Tim and linking his arm through his boyfriend's. "We've just never .... gotten physical yet," he said, keeping his voice low.

"If you're nervous about it, don't be," the clerk told them. "Just concentrate on what you feel for each other, and let everything come naturally. You guys'll be fine," he said with another smile. "But if you'd really like a book that explains things, we've got a few."

He proceeded to pull four books off the shelf, handing two of them to TIm, the other two to Jimmy. "Have a seat, make yourselves comfortable, check them out and see if they're what you're looking for," he told them. "And if you need any more help, don't hesitate to ask."

The young man smiled again and moved back towards the front of the shop, leaving Jimmy and Tim to blink in his wake. Both of them felt as though they'd been hit by a small hurricane -- but they also felt more comfortable and relaxed than they had.

"I like what he said," Jimmy told Tim as they sat down. "That there's no right or wrong way to make love. That we should just concentrate on what we feel. That's kind of what I feel like we should do, Tim. It's not the physical mechanics of it that are important."

"But I don't want to take a chance on hurting you, Jimmy," Tim protested, shaking his head. "I know we need to use lube and all that -- and I know where things go, obviously -- but it's the little things, the finer points of making love. All the finesse that goes along with it."

"I'm not worried about finesse," Jimmy said softly, one hand closing over Tim's. "That'll come later. All I care about is that we're together, and that we love each other and show it with not just our words, but our bodies, too. I want to be yours, Tim. Even if the first time isn't perfect."

"I guess there's nothing I can do to make sure everything is absolutely perfect," Tim admitted with a soft sigh. "But I want it to be, Jimmy. I want your first time with me to be the best you've ever had. I want it to be a night we'll both remember and treasure for all of our lives."

"It'll be a perfect night," Jimmy told him softly. "Even if everything we do doesn't go exactly how we've planned, the night will be perfect just because I'll be with you. I don't need anything but you to make my whole life absolutely perfect, Tim."

Was it his imagination, or did Tim's dark eyes brighten with tears when he heard those words? Jimmy couldn't resist leaning over to press his lips against his boyfriend's cheek; he needed that contact, needed to touch Tim in some way.

"The only thing I need to make every day absolutely perfect is to know that you'll be right there with me when I get home," Tim said softly, sliding an arm around Jimmy's waist as they sat on the couch, with books lying around them. "You make my life perfect."

"So this one night doesn't have to be perfect," Jimmy concluded with a smile. "It just has to be the two of us, doing what comes from our hearts. But I still think we might want to get a book to help us along. Maybe give us a few ideas."

"Oh, I've already got plenty of ideas," Tim told him, flashing Jimmy a wicked grin. "I know exactly what I want to do. And now that we've kind broken down a wall that I don't think I even realized was there, I'm not afraid to discuss them with you."

"You never have to be shy about expressing anything you feel to me," Jimmy said, surprised that Tim could have felt that way. "We might not always agree, Tim, but we can talk about anything. And I"m sure that I'm going to love your ideas. All of them."

"Then maybe we should pick out a couple of books, get out of here and go home, and let the ideas start coming," Tim whispered into his ear, his voice soft and husky. "I want to get you naked in bed, and then see what happens. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised."

"No doubt about that," Jimmy answered, picking up the book that he'd chosen and holding it up so that Tim could see the title. "I figured we couldn't go wrong with How To Make Love To A Gay Man. It seems like the simplest one of the bunch."

"I think simple would be the best thing to start out with," Tim agreed, smiling as he took the book from Jimmy. "I think he's right. As long as we follow our hearts, we'll be just fine. Maybe a little awkward at first, but that could be part of the fun."

Jimmy nodded, smiling and letting Tim pull him to his feet and following his boyfriend to the front of the shop to pay for their books. Somehow, he couldn't help feeling that they'd gotten exactly the advice that they needed -- and they hadn't had to find it in the pages of a book.
