Jimmy turned from the window as soft music filled the air.
"This is my favorite song," he said with a smile, looking over at Tim where his boyfriend stood next to the stereo. "Etta James has such an amazing voice."
Tim nodded, smiling as the soft strains of "At Last" filled the room. "Dance with me, sweetheart," he said softly, holding his arms out to Jimmy. "This song was meant for slow dancing. And I want to be close to you. I want to hold you in my arms while this is playing."
Jimmy couldn't think of anything else he'd rather be doing than swaying slowly in his love's arms, as the sun went down outside and night settled across the city.
He gladly moved into Tim's arms, smiling as he did.
The feeling of Tim's arms wrapped around his waist, the sound of the music, the aura of contentment -- all of those things combined to keep the smile on his face.
He had never thought of himself as being a romantic -- until he'd met Tim. Now, it felt as though he was always having romantic thoughts -- bombarded with them, in fact. He was always thinking of little ways to surprise Tim, with cards and gifts and other things.
Last week, he had surprised his love with a night out at a romantic candlelit restaurant -- and they had kissed and held hands all the way home.
And only a few days ago, Tim had surprised him with a beautiful card that had been delivered to him at work, on a day when they hadn't seen much of each other.
Just knowing that his boyfriend enjoyed these little romantic gestures -- both giving and receiving them -- made Jimmy smile. He had truly found the one who was the other half of his heart, the man who completed him in every way. He couldn't imagine a life without Tim in it.
They fit together perfectly, he realized as they continued to sway to the soft music. It was as though they had been made for each other, meant to be in each other's arms.
Maybe they had been. Fate had meant for them to find each other.
As the song ended, Jimmy drew back slightly to gaze into Tim's eyes, the love that he saw there warming and reassuring him. Tim still felt the same way he did.
This man would never leave him, never forsake him. Tim would always be here -- and Tim would always hold his heart in those steady, strong hands, those hands that were so capable and sure. Jimmy knew that his heart would always be safe there; he had no fears of its ever being broken.
He wasn't quite ready to be out of Tim's arms yet, and his boyfriend seemed to realize that. Jimmy smiled as the song began playing again; Tim had put it on repeat.
Without a word, they continued dancing, their hearts needing no words.***
