John hoped that Jordan would like this idea.

He looked down at the puppy sitting at his feet, tongue lolling, looking up at him with big dark eyes. If Jordan didn't want a dog, then he'd have to find someone who did.

But of course Jordan would want this puppy, he told himself. He knew that his boyfriend liked animals; Jordan had talked a few times of the dog he'd had when he was a child, and he'd sounded wistful about not having a pet any more. He'd love to have a dog to keep him company.

And not only that, but a Labrador was a good guard dog, he told himself, bending slightly to scratch the puppy behind the ears. He'd keep Jordan safe.

Not that he really had to worry about Jordan's safety.

But he did, he thought with a frown as the elevator doors opened and the two of them entered. John pressed the button for Jordan's floor, the frown still on his face.

The chocolate Labrador puppy whined, and John bent to let the dog lick his hand. In only a few moments, they were on Jordan's floor, walking towards the front door of his apartment. John felt more than a little nervous, wondering if he should have thought this through.

Well, it was done now. Jordan would have a puppy, and if he didn't want a dog, then he and Harold would have two. Bear had already taken to the puppy.

He had a key, of course, but this time, he opted to ring the doorbell. He wanted Jordan to come to the door and open it, to see the new addition before John brought him in.

John smiled as he heard footsteps coming to the door; he'd known that Jordan would be home this evening, of course, but he had been worried that maybe his boyfriend would have stopped by the grocery store, or a bookshop, and been late coming home. But no, he was definitely here.

John almost held his breath as the door swung open; his gaze met Jordan's before the other man looked down at the puppy, then smiled and bent to pet him.

"Well, who have we here?" Jordan asked.

John couldn't keep back his smile of relief; it looked as though Jordan had already fallen in love with the puppy at first sight. He shouldn't have worried.

"Does he have a name?" Jordan asked, looking up at John, his face wreathed in smiles. "He's a gorgeous dog. The kind of dog I'd like to have. I've wanted to get one, but I never seem to have the free time to go to the shelter, and when I do, I'm too tired to go out."

Now was the time to tell him. "He's yours, Jordan," John said softly. "I got him for you. He doesn't have a name yet, no. I thought you could do that honor."

He smiled at the look of happiness that suffused his boyfriend's face.
