"Do you know how your kisses make me feel?" Josef breathed against Mick's mouth as the two of them pulled apart after a particularly intense kiss. His gaze was slightly unfocused, almost glazed, as though he was in some sort of dream world.

"Overpowered? Sensual?" Mick guessed, saying the first two words that came into his mind. He laughed softly, tightening his arms around the other man's waist and drawing Josef closer against him. "No, I don't know how my kisses make you feel. Tell me."

"Breathless," Josef answered, his voice as soft and dreamy as his faraway gaze. "Like all the air is being sucked out of my lungs -- but in a good way," he hastened to add, blinking at his boyfriend. "Like I want more and more of what you're giving me."

Mick blinked back at the other man; he hadn't expected something like that to come from Josef's lips. He knew that Josef loved and wanted him, even if he didn't say those three all-important words too often. He had thought he migh hear something like that now.

But to hear that he left Josef breathless .... That was a little scary. As far as he knew, nothing distracted Josef from the world around him. Even when they were making love, there were times when he felt that his boyfriend was aware of everything else in the room.

Knowing that he could scramble Josef's senses with just a kiss was something that Mick hadn't thought himself capable of. Did this mean that Josef was more invested in their relationship than Mick had dared to hope that he was?

"So I leave you breathless, huh?" he finally answered, grinning at his boyfriend. "How do I manage to do that, hmmm? I've never known you to be anything less than fully aware of what's going on around you -- are you saying that I dull your senses?"

Josef nodded, looking serious. "Yeah, you do. But it's not necessarily a bad thing," he said softly, raising a hand to stroke his fingers through Mick's hair. "I've never met anybody who makes me feel the way you do. That means that it's a good thing I finally did."

"Even Sarah?" The name was out before Mick could hold the words back; he knew that he'd said the wrong thing even before Josef shifted on the couch, moving out of his arms and away from him. He could feel his heart sinking, his spirits hitting rock bottom.

Why couldn't he learn to keep his big mouth shut, and not to talk about topics that obviously bothered Josef? He should know by now that Sarah wasn't a topic his boyfriend wanted to discuss; the subject had been taboo between them for a long time.

She was dead now; she had slipped from that coma into the endless sleep, and Josef had been upset but not devastated when it had happened. He'd admitted to Mick that it was past time for her to leave this world and go into eternity.

So now, there was nothing standing between the two of them -- nothing but Josef's memories, and his natural caution when it came to being with another man. But trust him to bring up something that should have remained buried, Mick thought bitterly.

Josef sighed, shaking his head. "No, she never affected me the same way you do," he whispered, not looking at Mick. "I loved her, but she's in the past. And I never felt as strongly about her as I do about you. There's no comparison, Mick. There never has been."

Mick wanted to breathe a sigh of relief at those words, but he didn't. He felt guilty for bringing memories back to Josef that the other man would probably much rather forget; why was it that half the time when he opened his mouth, he immediately rammed his foot right into it?

"I'm sorry, Josef," he said, his voice low. "I didn't mean to stir up anything that I shouldn't have. You know me. I open my mouth sometimes, and my foot heads right for it. Let's change the subject and forget that we even spoke about this, okay?"

Josef's gaze was on him again, and Mick's eyes met the other man's to realize that Josef was smiling at him, looking amused. "Foot in mouth disease, huh? Yeah, you're pretty prone to that sometimes," he said, his tone teasing. "Too often, in my opinion."

"So ...." The words came to Mick's lips before he really thought about them. "Should I kiss you breathless again, just to be sure that I don't stick my foot in my mouth?" He coudln't help laughing at his own words, wondering what Josef would have to say.

The other man broke into laughter; he slid closer to Mick again on the couch, one arm sliding around the younger vampire's waist. "I think that might be a good idea," he said softly, raising his face to Mick's. "If you're kissing me, there won't be room for your foot."

"Definitely no room," Mick agreed, pulling Josef closer. As his mouth descended to the other man's lips, he could swear that it was him who was rendered breathless; as soon as his lips touched Josef's, he was robbed of the power of speech or coherent thought.

Wasn't it supposed to be Josef who felt this breathless and unable to think when they kissed? But this time, the breathlessness was all on Mick's side; all he could think of was how Josef felt in his arms, the warmth and sweetness of that soft mouth on his own.

Josef's arms were around his neck, pulling him closer; his own hands were moving up the other man's sides, his fingertips aching to feel the softness of Josef's bare skin. He wanted to have this man in his bed, not just sitting here on the couch ....

With difficulty, Mick raised his head, panting for breath. It took a few moments for his eyes to focus again, and when they did, the only thing that he could see was Josef, that same dreamy look in his eyes, his lips curved in a slight smile.

"You see what I mean?" he whispered, his voice breathy. "It's not just me this time, is it? It's both of us. You make me breathless, Mick St. John. Not just when you kiss me, but when I think of all the things you and I can do together."

"All the things?" Mick said, a soft laugh punctuating his words. "You mean while you're kissing me, you have all that going through your mind too?" He feigned a pout, trying to lighten the moment. "I don't know if I should be insulted or flattered."

"Flattered. Definitely flattered," Josef whispered, leaning closer. Mick couldn't take his eyes from the other man's lips; he knew that Josef's fangs were there, behind the softness of his mouth, but that didn't seem to matter at all. After all, he never used his fangs when they kissed.

"Are you sure you want to keep on with this? I'll take your breath away over and over again," he told Josef, a smile curving his lips. "Or I could take your breath away in other ways, if you want to take this into the bedroom," he murmured, his voice going soft and husky.

"I know how I can take your breath away without even having to touch you," Josef said, an unmistakable note of triumph in his voice. "If you want to find out just how I can do that, then close your eyes and don't open them until I tell you to."

Obediently, Mick closed his eyes, wondering what Josef was going to do. "Hey, where are you going?" he asked, wanting to open his eyes as he felt Josef rise from the touch, but knowing that he shouldn't do that if he wanted his boyfriend to keep on with whatever he was doing.

"Nowhere," Josef told him, still sounding slightly breathless. "I'm still right here. I'm not going anywhere, believe me. This'll only take a couple of minutes." Mick could hear him moving around, though he couldn't imagine what the other man was planning.

After what seemed like an interminable amount of time, but was probably only a few minutes, Mick heard Josef take a breath before he spoke. "Okay, open your eyes." He did as he was told, unable to resist the command inherent in that soft voice.

Josef was standing in front of him -- completely naked. The sounds he had heard must have been the rustle of the other man's clothes as they were removed, but he'd been too wrapped up in his own thoughts to realize what his boyfriend had in mind.

Josef tilted his head to one side, looking at Mick from under his long lashes. "So, is this a sight that's guaranteed to take your breath away, or do I need to try harder?" he asked, his tone playful and teasing. "Looks like I've rendered you speechless. That's a good sign."

Mick got to his feet, moving around the coffee table to pull Josef into his arms. One hand moved down the other man's back to cup on firm, rounded ass cheek, the other arm twined around Josef's waist, molding their bodies as close together as he could get them.

"You leave me breathless -- in more ways than I can even begin to count," he whispered, before his mouth came down on Josef's again. Their tongues tangled, their bodies strained against each other, and both of them could think of nothing else except taking the quickest route to the bedroom.
