Sammy was drawing with broken crayons on the floor next to his big brother. Dean was watching TV, flicking through the channels without any real interest. Dad had been gone for only 3 hours and already Dean was itching to get outside. But no. He had to watch out for Sammy and they weren't aloud to leave the hotel room.

Sammy hummed as he worked on the picture. Dean ignored it until it became louder, drowning out the voices on the TV.

"Knock it off, Sammy. I can't hear."

"Sorry," the six year old said and stopped humming. He drummed his feet against the floor in the same rhythm. Dean felt his frustration rise.

"Sam!" he snapped.

"Sorry!" Sammy snapped back. He stopped drumming his feet and looked up at his brother. "I'm bored. When's Dad gonna get back?" Dean looked at his brother. His bottom lip stuck out in a slight pout. Dean couldn't help but smile.

"I don't know kiddo. Soon, I hope." Sammy frowned. Dean put his hand on his little brother's head. "It was too dangerous for us to go this time. He'll take us next time." Sam's frown grew.

"That's not exactly what I was worried about."

"You don't want to hunt?" Dean asked.

"Not really." Sam said, moving his head from underneath his brother's hand. Dean raised one eyebrow.

"I don't get you, Sammy. You don't want to hunt, but you don't like being left behind either."

"Because it's boring!" Sam said. "Being locked up in these hotel rooms…it sucks!" Dean nodded his agreement.

"Yeah, it does. That's why I'd rather hunt. You'll learn to like it someday."

"Hmm," was Sam's reply.

That night Dean was woken by his little brother. Sam shook his shoulder until he turned to face him.

"What's wrong, Sammy?" Dean asked. Sam stood next to his bed in his night clothes. He looked embarrassed.

"I had a nightmare. Can I stay with you for a while?" Dean sighed, but moved over making room for his brother. Sammy climbed into the bed and snuggled against Dean.

"What was the nightmare about?" Dean asked. Sammy nuzzled his face into Dean's neck.

"You and Dad had left me because I didn't want to hunt. You said that I wasn't worth keeping around anymore." Sam's voice quivered slightly as he spoke. Dean felt a wave of affection for his younger brother.

"You know I'd never say that, Sammy." Dean said. He curled an arm around his little brother.

"Can I stay here for the rest of tonight?"

"Sure, kiddo."
