***

Though the width and breadth of their love was, in time, the span of a few hours, Jack knew he would not soon forget (nor did he want to) the man he had taken his name from.

He had originally stolen it, thinking nothing of it. It was just a label; a toe tag giving him a place. He wore it with a loose, unaffected air; it wrapped around him like his favored greatcoat.

But something had changed when he'd met the man who had worn the name in the first place; something had shifted, and now the name carried more weight than Jack thought he could bear.

He kept seeing those eyes, confused and slightly afraid, staring back into his own just before he'd stepped into time- eyes that would dim forever the next day; a man who knew he was doomed and was willing to love even for so short a time, regardless of consequence.

Tosh was right; his love for Jack, for that man who only wanted to protect his men but was willing to fall for a disaster like him, his love for Jack would help him carry the name with a mixture of pride and remorse.

He would carry Jack's name to the end of his days, however long those days might be. It was the least he could do.
