He remembers his father in flashes of color.

He remembers being wrapped in the cocoon of his father arms when he was still days old. His father was green all over. Green and beautiful.

He remembers skipping through timespace in a makeshift cradle of soft fabric on his father's back. His father was flashes of sliver and lightening. "Never stay in a place long enough to get caught," his father said.

He remembers his first hunting lesson on a planet where everything was purple. His father was blindingly yellow. "Unlike most delicious morsels of meat, if you want to catch a Kaziq, you got to make sure it sees you," his father said as he practically glowed against the background.

He remembers (he wishes he didn't) being torn away from his father when the ash colored people came. "Time agents," his father said. His father was an angry angry red. "Not to worry. Time is relative," his father said. "We will be together again before you know it."

But time is very slow, he thinks as he drifts in and out of time. He has been searching for his father for a long time. He's tired and scared when he finds himself tangled up around a rift of flowing grays. He curls his paws and spread his wings and lets himself be drawn in to it.

"What the hell is that?" He hears someone say.

"Mazaqu?" His father's voice! "Mazaqu! I got you, Mazaqu!"

And suddenly he's being lifted out of the void and in to a hard cold space.

"What the hell did you just pull out of the rift, Jack?"

"Mazaqu, did you miss me?" his father asks with his arms around Mazaqu.

Yes, he thinks, as he burrows his head into his father's arms. Yes! Yes! Yes! He thinks as loud as he can.

"How do you know what it is, Jack?" Someone asks.

"He was inside of me for two years," his father says, "you don't forget your kid."

Father, he thinks. And his father smiles.

His father is a bright shade of blue.
