Jack knows it's not Ianto out there. He left Ianto behind, to live his life without Jack in the way. Ianto's a good man, full of life and promise. Jack is only dragging him down.

That doesn't change the fact that he knows those blue eyes better than his own reflection. That out there, on the ocean, Jack can see white skin that he's memorized inch by inch, a precious reward at the time. That his lips have traced the lines between those moles on that arm.

It's not Ianto he's seeing out there, because Ianto's long, skinny legs are nowhere to be seen. Because Ianto's never smiled at him that coyly. Because Ianto's never shown that amount of skin to the sun despite any amount of coaxing.

"He shows you your deepest desires," the Doctor says softly. "He wants to lure you under so he can drown you and devour your heart."

Jack's tempted to tell the Doctor that the man that face belongs to has already done all that.

Instead he turns back to land, to the TARDIS, and tries to forget.
