Spencer knew who it would be, but he checked the peephole anyway before opening the door.

"Come in. I expected you."

Morgan entered cautiously, his right hand floating in the air near his hip out of habit, though he was not armed. Spencer didn't know for sure when he'd become a potential threat, but he had an idea it was somewhere around the time Morgan had kissed him in their shared hotel room on the last case. That was certainly the last time the older man had made eye contact.

"I wasn't gonna come here."

Spencer shrugged. "I'm a good profiler," he replied, tucking his hair back from his eyes. Morgan's gaze followed his hand.

"Then tell me why I came, 'cause I don't really know." Morgan looked so lost that Spencer knew he would give him the answer, as far as he was able to.

"You kissed me. You wanted to kiss me, maybe for a while, I don't know - then you did. And it was a good kiss, a really good one, and I know you enjoyed it. And you don't know what it means. About you, mostly, but also about our relationship."

Morgan did meet his eyes, then, trusting him in the same way he always had. To know how to interpret the facts. "What does it mean?"

Spencer shook his head. "The only answer that matters now is whether you're planning to do it again."

The following moment was one of unprecedented stillness.

Morgan moved first.

Just a twitch of an arm, and then more.

Derek's hands found Spencer's waist, his mouth Spencer's mouth. It was as if he could taste genius in the other man, feel it, absorb it where their skin touched. The only answers in Derek's entire brain were yes, yes, and yes.

What it meant was, that even if he retired in a week, he'd be on a team for the rest of his life. And that was all Derek had ever really wanted to know.
