Heading home from the annual BAU Christmas party, Spencer Reid tumbled out of the Federal building, Santa hat askew, his breath blowing out opaque puffs in the cold, December air as he caroled through a very off -key rendition of ‘It Was the Night Before Christmas'.

Morgan winced.  He hadn't known it was possible to actually sing that particular carol; he wished he still didn't.  Whatever other abilities the genius possessed, singing wasn’t one of them.

Trading a raised eyebrow with Garcia, Morgan chuckled at her return grin and maneuvered the caterwauling young man into walking between them.  “Have a good time, Reid?”  he asked.

“The best!”  Spencer smiled; turning in a circle wide as he threw his arms up in the air.  “We have the best team in the BAU!  And Gideon and Hotch throw the best parties!”

Garcia only snickered, using the arm that came down the back of her shoulders to steer him toward the curb.  With any luck, there would still be an intrepid cabby or two left that they could flag down that would take them home.  “Morgan also packs a mean punch on the punch bowl,”  she sighed with a glare at the other man that was mostly lost on Spencer, who was once again, barreling through another Christmas carol.

Morgan winced at the implication, though well deserved, and thought he could pick out a few strains of Frosty the Snowman in the alcohol-garbled rendition.  Apparently Spencer was a loud drunk.

“I do it every year and everyone knows it.  How was I supposed to know that Spencer has a lower tolerance for vodka than wine?”

“Everyone does,”  Spencer rambled cheerfully, pulling Morgan closer to them by the hook of his other arm around the broad shoulders.  “Just as different types of wines affect different people differently.  Mostly it just puts me to sleep.”  He giggled.  “I like this better.”

Morgan chuckled, unable to keep the smile off his face as Spencer beamed over at him. “I’m sure you do, kid.  You going to be able to hold on until we get you home?”

“Of course.”  Spencer declared.

Using the opportunity as Garcia hailed an approaching cab to disentangle himself, Spencer threw both arms around Morgan’s neck as he promised;  “You won’t have to carry me to bed.  Though you can if you wanted to.”

With one eye on the approaching cabby, Morgan wrapped his arms around the thin hips.  Chuckling a little darker this time, he asked,  “Want me to strip you down and tuck you in, kid?”

“Want you to strip me down and tuck something in,”  Spencer nodded, pressing in for a kiss as the light screech of brakes could be heard beside the curb.  “And I want to sleep in the middle tonight; want you to hold me while I sleep.”

Garcia broke in on the unspoken need softly.  “Cab’s here.”

Gently unwrapping the arms from around his neck, Morgan got Spencer moving, urging him into the back seat and watching as he immediately wrapped those long arms around Penelope as he slid in beside them and shut the door.  Giving the cabby his address, Morgan didn’t give the disinterested glance another thought as he molded himself against Spencer’s back where the younger man sat, turned slightly on his hip.  Kissing the soft hair on Reid’s head, his Santa hat having fallen to the floor, Morgan checked silently with Garcia before promising, “You can be in the middle tonight, baby boy.  Momma and I will take good care of you.  Wear you out and keep you safe, alright?”

Nodding his head where it rested on Garcia’s chest, her fingers running through his hair in a gentle caress, Spencer sighed happily between them as he settled down for the ride home.

He was asleep in seconds.
