Summary: Written for Sugarhigh9394 JJ/Kate, a close call leads to a first kiss.

JJ couldn't believe this was happening, she was being held hostage at the local hospital in a small town in New York. Their unsub had been killing people while they were in the hospital. The unsub, Andrea Bakstone had lost her father to complications due to surgery so she was killing people on the surgery ward before inadequacies by the staff could kill them. The BAU had managed to corner her but before they could talk her down, she grabbed JJ and placed her gun to her head.

"If you come any closer I'll shoot her, I swear."

"Andrea, you don't have to do this. Let Agent Jareau go and we can talk about this," Rossi coaxed.

"You won't talk to me, you'll just shoot me," the unsub declared.

"No, I won't shoot you, I just want to talk," Reid said as he holstered his gun and walked towards the unsub holding one of his best friends hostage.

"They had to die before the staff killed them," Andrea argued.

"I know, you were just trying to protect them, weren't you?" Reid questioned. The unsub nodded happy someone understood where she was coming from. Reid continued to talk hoping he'd get through to the unsub. He could see Kate nervously glancing over at them every now and then. Even he could see the fear and love waring in her eyes. Everyone thought he was inept when it came to relationships. It wasn't that, it was just that he didn't want to always discuss it.

Kate was holding her breath. She wanted to turn away and stop watching the hostage situation, but she knew she couldn't. As an agent for the bureau, she knew she had to remain professional, at least on the outside. Meanwhile on the inside she was a wreck. She'd been trying to fight her feelings for JJ but it was a losing battle. She'd begun to think that JJ had taken notice. What Kate couldn't tell for sure, though, was if she returned those feelings. She couldn't help but pray that JJ did, but she knew she'd have to accept it either way. Shed worked too hard to screw up this great opportunity on unrequited love. She was pulled from her thoughts by a comossion and cheering from the others. JJ had been released and was scanning the group. Her eyes locked on Kate and held. Before she knew what she was doing, Kate found herself walking over to JJ, pulling her into a hug, and without thought kissing her passionately on the lips. Everyone froze and Kate pulled back praying she hadn't just blown the morst important relationship she had.

"JJ, I'm sorr-" she began but was stopped by JJ touching her lips.

"Do it again, please?" she requested softly.

"What?" Kate asked.

"Kiss me again, please," JJ requested. So Kate did just that again and again.
