"She coming?" Morgan asked loudly when Emily was back in earshot. Emily's only response was a sad smile and a slight shake of her head. Morgan shrugged. better luck next time, the action said.

"Where's Reid and Garcia?" Emily asked as she got closer. Morgan threw his arm around the dejected slump of her shoulders, steering her towards the elevators.

"Garcia and Mr Nerd are off doing their own thing, and Reid said he had a prior engagement." Emily sighed.

"Maybe I should just call it a night too then" she said, entering the lift as it dinged open in front of her. Morgan moved his body in front of the sensor in the door of the elevator, preventing it from closing.

"What?" he asked with a cocky smile. "I am not good enough for your company?" Emily rolled her eyes, letting her body drop back to lean against the wall of the lift.

"I am just don't have the energy to keep up a conversation right now" Emily told him, then as if to prove her fatigue she rolled her neck and shoulders while raising her hand to cover a yawn. Morgan sighed, finally moving into the elevator and allowing the doors to slide closed.

"Look" he said, reaching behind him to push the call button for the garage level. "I know that the last few  weeks have been hard on you, and I know that you would much rather go home to bed and sleep it all away. And you can do that, right after you come out with me to try and get back into the swing of things."  Emily laughed.

"Who says I was out of the swing of things" Morgan raised his eyebrows.

"Don't give me that" Morgan scoffed as the doors opened to the dark garage. "The only person you've had eyes for for the last two years has just recently taken herself right off the market." Emily raised her eyebrows and moved to push by him and bee-line for her car. Morgan stopped her, once again placing his body on the thresh hold so that the doors could not close, leaving Emily trapped in the confines of the lift. "I know you were disappointed Em" he told her seriously. "You can play the aloof card with someone else, But I know better, and to tell you the truth, I was too, I thought for sure you two would eventually make a go of it."

"God, why do you always have to be so persistent" Morgan flashed his winning smile at her exasperation.

"It's just who I am" He reached out, grasping Emily's shoulder and pulling her towards his car with a strong hand. "Trust me when I tell you that A night out on the town will make you feel better." Emily laughed again, stiffening her legs and dropping her weight back onto Morgan's pushing hands in a childish display of stubbornness.

"Did you develop a drinking problem when I wasn't looking?" She asked. "I highly doubt that drinking myself numb is a healthy way to deal with my disappointment"

"Disappointment? sure"he said as if it were the most natural thing in the world. then stopped to unlock his car and push her into the passenger seat. "But it is the ONLY way to deal with heart break" Any retort that Emily may have had for that was muffled by Morgan slamming the door shut and moving around the car to hop into the driver's seat.

Hours later Emily had to admit that the light burn of the tequila and loud thump of the music were helping. She stood beside Morgan with her back against the bar, still refusing to talk to him even after the drinks and shots he'd bought, her eyes scanning the dance floor.

"What about that one over there?" He asked. Emily rolled her eyes, pretending as always to hate the 'spot the dyke' game, when really she felt a great thrill in the shocked and disappointed look on his face when she announced that all of the hottest ones were totally gay.

"You're a profiler too, you tell me" She said, her affect flat as she fained disinterest. Morgan laughed.

"Well then I say yes" he told her, motioning behind him for another round. "because she hasn't taken her eyes off of you all night"

"Does Detective Lopez know that you're out perving on girls at some nightclub?" She threw back at him. That seamed to be enough to silence Morgan for a moment, though as a sad look flashed over his face Emily couldn't help but feel a little bad.

"She never called" He said finally, making sure to look out over the dance floor and not at his friend.

"I am sorry" Emily answered. not sure what else to offer. Morgan shrugged.

"I guess I just never learned how to be the guy women call back. I've had so many flings that I don't know I would know how to have a serious thing." Emily finally looked over at him, for possibly the first time all night.

"I've had so many intense crushes on straight or otherwise unattainable woman that I don't know that I would either." She told him. The bartender slipped two more shots and a fresh drink for both of them onto the bar behind them before quickly moving on to his next customer.

"Well then" Morgan said with a sudden, and not entirely believable grin. "Here's to good friends and meaningless flings" They both smiled sadly as they tipped their shot glasses towards each other in a toast.

"Here's to JJ and Lopez" Emily added quietly. "may they find happiness, no matter who they end up with"
