The silence surrounded him, still and complete and eternal. Alone in the Hub, far beneath the waters of Cardiff Bay, Jack took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "Hey, guys."

There was no response, of course. But in his mind's eye he could see them, hear them, laughing and swearing and smiling, whispering endearments and screaming curses, an army of faces that he would not allow himself to forget. So many years, so many lives, but so long as he remembered....

Jack opened his eyes to the stillness of the morgue and wondered which of them would be next.
