Title: World on Fire

Fandom: Torchwood
Characters: Jack Harkness
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note: I was in a really angry mood last night. This, of course, resulted in me writing short stories about two of my favorite characters being exceedingly angry. This one stars Jack Harkness; the next one, which is titled The Oncoming Storm, is about the the Doctor.

Sometimes he wants to go outside and walk down the streets of Cardiff until he finds a gas station. Buy a gallon of gasoline. Walk off with the smell of it sticking to his hands. Take the lift down to the Hub. Pour the gasoline all over the floor, strike a match. Watch it burn all around him.

Sometimes he wants to go to the nearest convenience mart. Wait until the guy driving the oil tanker isn’t paying attention and push him out of his seat. Take the tanker and drive it down the small, crowded streets. Look around for the tallest building, the most sparkling skyscraper. Not many choices, but what he’s got will do. Drive the tanker straight into the bottom of the building and watch the flames flare up and the building crash down.

Sometimes he wants to take the alien weaponry they’ve been gathering up ever so painstakingly and strap it to his belt. Become a one-man army. Kill those who dare oppose him. He never imagines how far he’d make it, how far he’d reach. He only hears the sound of screaming. Only sees the dark path he’d blaze across the land. Only smells the smoke that would rise up in his wake.

Somehow – he doesn’t know how or why, really, and this is what scares him most – something always pulls him back.
