Ruth Evershed had a gentle demeanour, combined with the aura of exhausted indifference Tosh associated with low-level government employees.

Ruth had pictures. Something had shown up on the grounds of the Ally Pally and MI5 was eager to know if it might be alien in nature.

Tosh got the impression that Ruth was less interested in what she was saying than in how she said it. Maybe this was all an elaborate ploy to recruit her for The Security Service. Flattering , but there was no way she could leave Torchwood. They needed her too much.

And she needed them.
