Summary: Ianto's first day at Torchwood 3.

Ianto didn't care about anything any more. Lisa needed him and that was the only thing he wanted to concentrate on. He couldn't stay in London. Not after what happened. He wasn't sure he wanted to stay at Torchwood, but they were the only people who could help save her.
He thought that moving would be better. Getting away from the people who knew him.. and Lisa. Getting away from the blood and the shame that marred the name of Torchwood. And escaping reality all together.
'It's not running away.' he reassured himself. Each night. Each morning. Each meal... every minute of every day.
He could have gone to Scotland, maybe help find the missing Torchwood but no.. Cardiff. It was familiar.... and he needed familiarity in his life. It was home... he supposed.
'Be good to see the family' he told himself. 'Be good to see Ma and Pa'
Plus the job was easy. All they needed was a tea boy. That's all he was needed for. Cleaning up some fancy qualified doctor's shit. That's all. Easy. More time to concentrate on Lisa.

That morning he put on his suit. Brushed his hair. Cleaned his teeth. Did everything as usual. Kissed Lisa goodbye. Washed away her tears, cleaned away the blood. Topped up her painkillers.
The flat was small but it was perfect. He drank his coffee and left the house. Promptly at 7 am. The interview wasn't until half 7 and they had to take him on but he still wanted to be punctual.
So he walked. A little tourist centre on the bay front. Not too far from home. Quite close.
'I could get breakfast.' He thought, keeping positive. He walked to a small café, one he remembered from his youth. They still made beautiful bacon sandwiches too, cheap and tasty.

So there he stood. The tourist centre. Old and shabby, not like Torchwood one. Maybe that was a good thing. Different to the harsh and evilness within the old regime.
He took a deep breath and walked in. There was nobody there. Not one single person. Brochures were lying about the place, posters of beautiful landscapes on the walls. But not a single soul. He stood, awkwardly by the door. Waiting for someone to arrive. He got distracted by some brochures that were lying carelessly on the floor, sighing he bent down and picked them up, lying them neatly on on the counter, when he noticed some more behind it.
'God this place needs some organisation.' he sighed as he moved behind the counter and sifted through the piles of crap behind it.

'Urm excuse me..' a woman's voice sounded behind him. He froze, sighed and got up.
He turned and was greeted by a beautiful woman. Slightly dark skin, long wavy hair, tall. She reminded him of Lisa. Had that same mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
'Yes?'
'I was wondering if you could tell me where Torchwood is.'
Ianto blinked and smiled slightly. 'A test' he thought.
'Torchwood?'
'Yes. Do you know?'
'I think you've come to the wrong place miss.'
'Are you sure?' She asked.
'I am sorry miss. And as far as I know there is no Torchwood within Cardiff.'
'Oh god. Knew he was lying!' She said, beat.
'I am sorry miss.'
'Oh no worries. Should have known not to trust a guy I picked up in a bar.' She smiled, Ianto returned the smile as the woman left.
Next thing he knew the wall opened, very Torchwood he thought, and a tall man in blue trousers, a pale blue shirt and braces. He didn't want to look at him like that but god.. he was hot. Shit. He'd have noticed that he was standing there, mouth gaping.
'I have that affect on a lot of people.' He laughed in his American voice.
'I'm sorry.'
'No don't apologise! Ianto Jones is it?'
'Yes sir. That's me.' He smiled.
The American looked confused at the 'sir' but moved on.
'Captain Jack Harkness. The boss'
'Good too meet you'
'And you' Jack said, eyeing him up and down.
'The woman-' Ianto started
'Suzie Costello. My second in command'
'Oh.'
'Right, time to meet the team.' He said, leading Ianto into the hole in the wall.
Sheepishly Ianto followed.
