Revelation

We make ourselves a place apart
Behind light words that tease and flout,
But oh, the agitated heart
Till someone find us really out.

'Tis pity if the case require
(Or so we say) that in the end
We speak the literal to inspire
The understanding of a friend.

But so with all, from babes that play
At hide-and-seek to God afar,
So all who hide too well away
Must speak and tell us where they are.

Ianto felt the cold steel pressed against the back of his head before he heard the words.

“Jack! What are you doing?” Gwen shrieked.

“Resisting the urge to shoot,” snarled Jack.

Ianto swallowed hard and tried to suppress his panic. They know. He knows. It was all for nothing, and now she’ll die.

He resented the wave of dismayed elation that swept through his body. He knew Jack would have no choice but to eliminate the threat that Lisa represented. While guilt and failure tore at his heart, a part of him couldn’t help but feel relief.

It was over.
