"Hey, Cutie-Patootie!  Can I buy you a drink?"

Ianto turned his head to look at the man who'd just spoken to him.  He was cute in an overeager, terrier puppy kind of way.  He was no comparison to Jack, of course, but who would be?  He was about to refuse the offer of a drink, but the thought of Jack, and how pissed off Ianto was at him, made him reconsider.  Maybe a drink and a little harmless flirtation was just what he needed.

"Yes, thank you.  One request though, please don't call me Cutie-Patootie." he replied, winking.

"Sure thing, Sugar Lips!  So what should I call you?"

"Ianto.  My name is Ianto Jones.  And you are?"

"Well, Ianto, my name is Jack," he giggled.  "You're accent is just giving me the warm fuzzies!  Say something else."

Bloody hell, another Jack...and an American too.  Ianto started to think he was doomed.

The bartender came by to take their drink order.  Ianto asked for a whiskey neat and Jack ordered a banana daquiri. "And don't forget one of the cute little umbrella things, k?"

They sat down at a table and soon after the drinks arrived.  Jack was prattling away about his fabulous life in New York, where he was an actor and his best friend, Will, was a lawyer.  He was visiting Cardiff with his other friend, Karen...but she was passed out in the limo.

Ianto found Jack's infectious enthusiasm to be a refreshing change and was starting to loosen up.  No alien threats, no confusion over his relationship with his boss.  A few drinks later and Ianto had ditched the suit jacket, waistcoat and tie.  His sleeves where rolled up and the top two buttons on his shirt were undone.  He and Jack were discussing the merits of mousse versus hair gel while making sarcastic little comments about some of the other people in the pub.  Then the karaoke started.  Jack sang Madonna's "Material Girl" to several whistles and cat-calls from the crowd.  Ianto had relaxed enough to remember that he'd used to rather enjoy singing karaoke, so he got up and sang Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun".

He hadn't felt this carefree and happy since the night he and Lisa had gone to the circus in London two weeks before Canary Wharf.  Jack convinced Ianto to sing a duet of "It's Raining Men" and they were just taking their places at the mike, laughing and flirting with each other.

Captain Jack Harkness had been looking for Ianto for a couple of hours now to apologize.  He'd been distracted by the sound of laughter and fun from inside.  Deciding to sit down and have a quick drink before continuing his search for the wayward Welshman, he walked through the door and sat down at the bar.  He'd just taken a sip of his drink when the music started.  He glanced up at the small stage and choked on the whiskey he'd just drunk.  One of the men up there singing that crazy song was Ianto...his Ianto...singing and dancing and having a wonderful time.  As the burning in his throat eased and his eyes stopped watering, he watched the stage in rapt fascination.  By the end of the song, Jack had a huge grin on his face and joined in the thunderous applause echoing through the pub.

He wanted to walk over to their table and join them, but he knew just how mad Ianto had been earlier.  Deciding that subtlety, never his strong suit, might be called for, he motioned the bartender over.  Jack ordered the men another round and watched the bartender deliver it to their table.  He could see Ianto questioning where the drinks came from and then the bartender pointed towards Jack to say that they came from him.  Jack watched as Ianto started in surprise and started to turn a bright red.  Jack chuckled, he loved it when Ianto blushed.  It was so adorable.  He raised his glass in a silent salute and raised a questioning eyebrow.  He was delighted when Ianto grinned and waved him over.

Ianto was embarrassed that J ack had caught him acting so silly, but he was relaxed enough to invite him over. NY Jack turned back to the table and caught sight of the man walking towards them.

"OHMIGOD!  Who is that delicious hunk of beefcake walking this way, Ianto?"  he squealed.

Ianto snorted into his drink and replied "My boyfriend...sort of."

"OHMIGOD!  If I had a boyfriend that looked like that I'd tie him to the bedpost and never let him out of bed!"

Ianto laughed out loud at that.  Mainly because his traitorous thoughts had reminded him of just what had been going on in the Hub last night.  Pushing those thoughts aside, he looked up at the older man approaching the table and grinned.

"Jack, meet Jack."  NY Jack giggled.

"Pleased to meet you, Jack.  I'm Captain Jack Harkness."  He flashed his killer smile as he shook the other man's hand.

"Jack  McFarland, and believe me, the pleasure is all mine," sighed NY Jack.

Giving Ianto a sly look, Jack sat down next to him and ruffled his hair.

"Why, Ianto Jones, who would have thought that you had such hidden talents?  How often do you sneak out and bring the house down singing karaoke?"

"Oh, all the time, Sir.  I'm a regular here."  Ianto rolled his eyes.  Jack knew where he spent all his time and it wasn't here singing karaoke.

"Well, you should do it more often, you were great."

Jack and Jack started chatting about New York and Ianto sat back with a smile on his face.  Jack was right, he should do this more often.  He'd always enjoyed singing and it felt good to let his guard down and just have fun.  His attention snapped back to the conversation when he heard NY Jack asking if his Jack sang.

"Oh yeah, I love to sing.  I used to make my living singing in a little nightclub in London, " was the surprising reply.

"What?!  Jack, you never told me you sang!"

Winking, Jack said "Hey, a guy has to have some secrets you know."

Ianto threw him a dark look for that one, but Jack just smiled that smile and winked again, knowing exactly what it did to Ianto's concentration.

"Prove it...get up there and sing something."

Jack stood up, smirked, and asked "Any requests?"

"Nope, choice of song is completely up to you, Sir!"  Ianto loved the exasperated little look Jack gave him for that "Sir".  He watched him walk over to look at the song selections.

Several songs caught Jack's eye, but he decided to save them and finally chose one of his favorite Cole Porter songs.  He gave his selection to the host and stepped up to the mike.

Times have changed,
And we've often rewound the clock,
Since the Puritans got a shock.....

Ianto was stunned as he listened to Jack sing.  Then, of course, Jack's personality kicked into high gear and his antics on stage reduced everyone to tears of laughter.  Towards the end of the song however, Jack caught Ianto's eye and sang directly to him....

And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
When you propose...
Anything goes....

Jack blew a little kiss Ianto's way before taking his bows and coming back to sit down.

The evening passed in a haze of laughter and music.  Jack and Jack did a hilarious rendition of "Anything you can do, I can do better".  And Ianto brought tears to several eyes (including some very well known to him) when he sang Roy Orbison's "Crying".

NY Jack's friend, Karen, wandered in around midnight.  "Hi, Poodle, are you having fun?"

Introductions were made and they all sat and chatted and laughed for another hour before Jack and Karen had to leave.

Ianto tensed a little bit when he realized that his buffer was gone.  Alone with Jack.  His earlier anger was gone, and they'd had a great time tonight, but he still wasn't quite sure about what their relationship was.

"This was fun, Ianto.  We should do stuff like this more often."  Jack watched Ianto's face closely for any reaction.

"That would be nice, Jack.  It's good to get out of the Hub, away from everyone else, and just relax."  Even though he was agreeing, he didn't look up from where his hand was resting in Jack's.

"Ianto?"  Jack's voice was serious and Ianto looked up into that bright blue gaze.  "I'm sorry.  It won't happen again, I promise."

The slight tension left Ianto's shoulders as he saw the sincerity in Jack's gaze.  "Thank you, Jack."

"You know, I really have missed singing.  Mind if I do one more before we go?"  Jack asked.

"Go right ahead.  I'd enjoy hearing you sing again."

Jack gave his selection to the host and stepped up to the mike.

Ianto looked up in surprise as the music began and Jack softly started to sing....

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick
And think of you
Caught up in circles, confusion
Is nothing new...

Jack held Ianto's gaze as he continued to sing, finally letting the younger man see all the feelings he'd been keeping hidden....

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you - I will be waiting
Time after Time
