"Does it bother you that you weren't my first?"

Ianto raised his eyebrows at Greg's question, not quite sure just what his boyfriend meant by it. "You may need to be a bit more specific with that, Greg."

There were so many things that those words could mean, he mused. A first love, a first lover .... he couldn't help but wonder just what Greg meant by them.

The other man wrinkled his nose a little, then smiled ruefully. "I mean .... my first lover, and the first person I've ever been in love with," he said, the words coming out slowly. "It doesn't mean that I love you any less because you weren't the first in either of those fields, Ianto."

Ianto shook his head, smiling as he propped himself up on one elbow and reached out to smooth a lock of Greg's unruly hair back from his forehead.

"It doesn't bother me at all, my love," he murmured, gazing into Greg's eyes.

Of course it didn't bother him. Why should it? he asked himself. He had been in love with Jack long before he had met Greg, and look at how that had ended. What he had with Greg was stronger and more lasting than any relationship he could ever have had with Jack.

He had everything that he needed with Greg, everything that he could possibly ever want. It didn't matter that this relat8ionship wasn't his first with a man; it would be his last.

No one could ever give him all that Greg did, and no one could ever take Greg's place. How could his lover think that the issue of whether he had been first even mattered?

But apparently, Greg did feel that it mattered, and he needed some reassurance. "We were both adults with pasts when we met, Greg," Ianto said slowly, his voice very soft. "It doesn't matter if I was the one to pluck your cherry. What matters is what we feel now."

Greg nodded, his gaze clearing, the worried expression vanishing.

Ianto was relieved to see that his boyfriend looked happy again, and that the question had apparently gone from his mind. When Greg spoke, his words confirmed that thought.

"It's never bothered me that you were with somebody else before me -- and that you loved him," Greg said, his words very soft. "I should have known that you'd feel the same way." He took Ianto's hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing his boyfriend's fingertips. "Forgive me for not realizing that."

"It's all right, sweetheart," Ianto whispered, moving closer to Greg beneath the covers and wrapping his arms around the other man, leaning over him until Greg was on his back.

It didn't matter that he hadn't met Greg and taken his cherry years ago. All that mattered was what they were to each other now.

He might not be Greg's first, Ianto thought with an inward smile, but he'd be the only one from now on.
