He was scrawny when Megan first introduced him to Horatio. Thin as a rail, big brown eyes, messed up hair, and scruffy looking. He was adorable and Horatio Caine had taken him under his wing. The kid needed to be trained.

They worked well together. He relied on Horatio’s training and skills, listened intently and learned. Over time he developed his own way of investigating and became a seasoned CSI.

When Megan left and Horatio took over, things changed with them once again. They were no longer mentor and student, but colleagues. Horatio looked at Speed in a new light; it was the beginning of a new stage in their relationship.
