House threw the bedpan at his nurse, who ran from the room tears streaming down her face.

"Now Gregory she was only trying to help."

The patient looked up at that familiar voice. "What the fuck do you want? Come back to see the crippled ex-lover?"

Horatio leaned against the door. "Do you think I would drop all my cases, scare the crap out of my team, and come here just to laugh?"

"Why not, everyone else has." House snarled. "Hell my ex-fiancée can't even stand the sight of me. Of course she's the bitch that did this in the first place."

Anger swept through the redhead. "She didn't have the right to make that decision, but she was doing it out of the goodness of her heart to save you."

"Well as they say, with friends like that who needs enemies," Gregory said. "What are you doing here?"

"You are my friend, family, and I will not leave you here to wallow in your misery." Horatio walked up to the bed. "And being a fucking bastard, well more than normal, and pushing everyone away, well more than normal, isn't going to help you."

"Ohhh the fancy detective has a sense of humor," the brunette sneered. "Just leave. I don't need you or anyone. Everyone has done quite enough as it is."

"What exactly are you whining over?" Horatio walked up to the bed. "That they took your decision away? You embarrassed to have to walk with a cane? Or pissed that you lived?"

"What the fuck do you know Horatio!" Gregory sat up and got into his face. "You fucking left New York because it got too tough for you, and you sit here and lecture me?"

Caine stepped back. "Take your best shot House. I've seen you at your worst. Don't think anything you can say is going to get me to leave."

"How about the fact I fucked you for pity," Gregory sneered. "That in truth I was thankful you murdered your pops so I could get rid of you."

"Is that it?" Horatio looked him in the eyes. "Call me a murdering whore? Hate to tell you this, honey I've heard worse." He knew Gregory hated being called Honey, or any pet name.

Gregory fumed, "Asshole. Get the hell out of my room."

"Do you really prefer death over this?" he gestured at the bandaged leg.

"You have no idea what it's like to wake up a cripple," House snapped back.

"Fine, then." Horatio pulled his gun and slammed it on the table. "There's your chance. End it."

The two stared at the gun sitting between them. House reached out and ran a finger along it. He had seen his lover strap a piece on every morning; watched him take good care of it, keeping it clean. He had held him, each time Horatio had to pull it and take a life. He looked up into the soft blue eyes. Horatio didn't look at him any differently, they held the same love and respect they'd always had.

Gregory leaned back in the bed, determined not to shed a tear. He hated and loved Horatio; the infernal man had a way of just making a point and it was annoying when he was right. "Bastard."

Horatio picked up the piece and put it back into his holster before sitting down on the bed. "If you want you can come to Miami with me."

House took a deep breath. It was a tempting offer, but despite the pain and humiliation he was facing, his life was in New Jersey. And fuck if he was going to let this stop him. He was the best fucking doctor they had. "No, this place would fall apart without me."

The redhead grinned warmly. "You're the best and you know it." he laughed, as the doctor smirked. "Honestly Gregory, if you need to vent.... wait I forgot who I'm talking to."

Gregory rolled his eyes. "I'm going to say this once..." He reached out and took Horatio's hand. "Thank you for coming."

"There's no other place I would be."

House rolled his eyes and grabbed the phone. "Are you going to call me every Sunday at eight am?"

'I might mix it up, and call at nine or really shock you and call Monday or Wednesday,' Horatio answered.

"Is it pathetic of me that I actually look forward to these calls?" He leaned against his cane and fixed his coffee.

'Hold on, let me write that down. 'Gregory House admits he likes it when I call.' Okay how are you?'

"You've been hanging out with me too much; you're getting snarky." House smirked. "Kinda sexy and turns me on."

'I'm not going to resort to phone sex,' Caine grumbled into the handset.

"Someone isn't getting any," he replied, sitting down in his favorite chair.

'Have you talked to Stacie?'

"And here we were having a nice conversation and you had to ruin it," Gregory snapped.

'You were a bastard before, but your bedside manner is getting complaints, well more than usual.' Horatio pointed out, concerned.

"Okay which duckling has got your number and tattle telling on me?" House demanded.

'Duckling?'

"Idiotic students who follow me around thinking they'll absorb my vast amount of knowledge."

'Did they lose a bet?'

"Haha." House snickered to himself. When Horatio wanted to he could keep up with him. One of the reasons the two had gotten along so well for years.

'Would you believe no one told me. Actually, we had a case down here. While processing the evidence we discovered some of the blood had some odd abnormalities. When we tested our suspect, his blood matched and had the same abnormalities. Further back ground investigation led us to find out he was treated for some rare blood disease and was one of your patients. I mentioned to him, that after you worked so hard to save him, and he went and ruined it by killing his friend. His comment, 'dude I would rather go to jail, then ever be at the mercy of Dr. House.''

"Thank you Horatio that really made my day." Gregory grinned from ear to ear. "H, stop slamming your head against the table its bad for the furniture."

'Damn, I just got paged.' Horatio grumbled. 'Do me a favor and just be nice to one person this week.'

"Well I get phone sex if I do?"

'No, just the good feeling of being a normal...fine I'll give you phone sex.'

"WOOOHO!"

'Bastard.'

When House hung up the phone, he had a small smile on his face. Sometimes he wondered if he should have gone to Miami with Horatio. He wondered if maybe they could have started up their relationship better, but he shook his head. His life was here. Horatio was in Miami. He would just have to live with his calls on Sundays. He looked around at the cold and empty house he lived in.

Grabbing his pills he swallowed a few, just to take the edge off his pain.
