“Did you feed her?”

“Yes.”

“Change her?”

“Yes.”

“You sure?”

“Dammit, Warrick. I know how to take care of our daughter!”

“Watch your mouth Gil. I know you know how to take care of her. I just don’t know why she’s crying.”

“I do. It’s me. She just doesn’t like me,” said Gil sitting down on the sofa dejectedly.

“Gil, she does like you. She loves you. She just senses your fear.”

“You don’t have to patronize me Warrick.”

“I’m not. I wouldn’t do that, Gil. You’re just being too hard on yourself,” Warrick replied as he walked back and forth putting Erica to sleep.

“Well if she hated you, you would be hard on yourself too.”

“She doesn’t hate you,” Warrick cradled his now sleeping daughter in his arms. “Gil tonight was the first time since the nanny left that you have kept Erica by yourself. You’re not used to it so you panicked. Erica sensed your fear and it made her uncomfortable. That’s why she was crying.”

“How’d you get to be so smart?”

“Well, I have quite a few cousins, so I learned some things early. Believe me; I have so much more to learn. Here, you hold her.”

“No, you finally got her to sleep and she looks peaceful. I don’t want her to start crying again.”

“Gil, she’s asleep. All you have to do is relax, Erica will be fine. Now open your arms.”

After a little hesitation, Gil held out his arms and Warrick gently placed Erica in them. Immediately Gil tensed, but the soothing hand massaging his tense neck muscles had him relaxing just as quickly. Warrick watched Gil as he smiled down at Erica, who was currently snuggling closer to Gil’s chest for warmth.

Gil looked over at his lover, with a brilliant smile on his face. “I’ll ask again; when did you get so smart.”

“The day I proposed to you,” Warrick replied, leaning in for a kiss. Breaking apart, Gil and Warrick resumed their favorite hobby: Erica watching.
