A/N: Story is in answer to my challenge to title a story the same as a song...The song is 'Fire and Rain' by James Taylor from the 1970 album 'Sweet Baby James'

Saturday was Catherine's and Sara's day off, but instead of going to the zoo with Sara and Lindsey, Catherine decides it's about time to give the house they all live in a good cleaning.

After about an hour Catherine is nearly finished, the only room left is the living room and as she starts cleaning it she sees all the photographs she, Sara and Lindsey have taken together over the years that the three have been a 'family', of course there are some photos of the two women with their co-workers from office Christmas parties and birthday celebrations and the like.

Looking at the photos she sees the thing that made her fall in love with Sara in the first place; those lovely, chocolate brown eyes, "The eyes are the windows to a person's soul..." Catherine says to the empty room, "And I have seen much in your soul my love."

Catherine then sits on the couch still looking at the picture she had picked up; it was from one of the restaurants on the strip where they had gone to dinner to celebrate six months together of being a couple; it was a close up of the two of them smiling and holding hands.

She then remembers the first time she saw those lovely eyes with the fire of intensity in them, it was when she first came to Vegas and Catherine could tell just how excited she was to be there, she saw the fire in those eyes many more times; especially when she has a hot lead on a case and when she is leaning over a microscope looking at a piece of evidence, of course there were the screaming matches the two of them had before they professed their love for one another; the one time Catherine will never forget was the time when her ex-husband Eddie got killed and one of the suspects called Lindsey 'that little brat' and she came into the interrogation room and threatened to kill the suspect, Sara pushed her out of the room and told her to go home because Lindsey needed her; of course the best time to see fire in Sara's eyes was when the two of them were making passionate love and Catherine could see all the love Sara had for her.

Of course the rain in those eyes was evident too, mostly those were times when Sara couldn't get justice for a victim; one that affected her deeply was Pamela Adler, a woman raped, shot and left for dead, the suspect was a minor so nothing really could be done and the husband really had no clue that she would remain in the comatose state she was in; another time was again after Eddie was killed and Sara saw Catherine crying about not being able to pin his murder on anyone, Catherine remembered the look in Sara's eyes the next day and to her it looked like a thunderstorm was raging in those eyes, the two worst times Catherine can remember about the rain in Sara's eyes was when they were working on a case of two women found in tar in the desert and it came out that Sara had ben abused by her father and her mother killed the bastard right in front of Sara who was 13 years old at the time, and the time when Nick was kidnapped when they all thought Nick was a goner, it was there

"Yes baby those eyes certainly been though many a fire and many rainstorms."

"What are you talking about angel?" Sara asks Catherine as she and Lindsey enter the house after their day at the zoo.

"I was just reminiscing about the times I looked into those beautiful eyes of yours and saw your emotions go from blazing fire to a complete deluge of rain."

Sara remembers Catherine's love of older music especially that of James Taylor, "So what do you see in my eyes now Catherine?"

"Love, pure love," Catherine tells Sara as she pulls her into an embrace

"And it's all thanks to you and Lindsey, my angel."
