Catherine's hand moves up the inside of Sara's thigh, lingering over the pale expanse of skin. Like slow motion, except more real than any movie trick. Sara wonders why it feels so incredibly leisurely. The build-up (full of false starts and complications)? Her desire to make this last (if it takes long enough, maybe she'll forget how to screw up in matters of the heart)?

"Breathe," Catherine says, and Sara realizes that she's holding in her exhalations. Forgetting that time hasn't really stopped.

Sara follows the instructions, letting out air as her breast feels the first touch of Catherine's mouth. Fingers make another lazy, delicate advance.

Sara wants it no other way.
