Challenge: 100 Drabbles – Horatio Caine/Timothy SpeedleIt wasn’t fair. Speed had fought to live that day. Horatio gave him the strength to face his past, the darkness within, and for the first time in ten years he truly lived. He was happy content with who he was, who he was with.
Speed sighed and rolled over in the bed to tired, to even get out of it. Horatio had fallen asleep in the chair next to the bed. He studied his lover carefully. The stress was taking a toll on him.
It had come unexpectedly. Speed had collapsed at a crime scene. A few dozen tests later the doctor gave him the news. Cancer, a tumor to be specific, in the brain and it was inoperable. They didn’t know how long Speed had. They told him to just enjoy what was left of his life.
It wasn’t fair. He had fought to live.
