Comments: this was written for the Gil/Greg Fic-a-thon #1. My assignment was: who: electricandroid three words: hippopotamus, cherry, androgyny oesn't want to see: disturbingly fluffy fluff Greg sat on the couch as he tried to finish his crossword puzzle."Hey Gil, what is a nine letter word that means male parthenogenesis in which the embryo contains only paternal chromosomes due to the failure of the egg nucleus to participate in fertilization?"
Gil paused from cooking dinner to think.
"I think it is androgyny Greg. Where did that question come from?"
"I am trying to finish my crossword puzzle. Hey do we have any cherries left?"
"I am trying to make dinner and you want to eat cherries?!"
"I'm hungry," Greg whined as he tossed his crossword puzzle on the table and joined Gil in the kitchen.
"If I ate like you did I would be as big as a hippopotamus. You can eat like that and stay as thin as you are. I am beginning to hate you."
Greg leaned against the counter and stared at Gil.
"Well if your starting to hate me I'll just pack up and go back to my apartment."
Gil fixed Greg with a stare and went back to cooking.
"Fine. I'll help you pack as soon as dinner is done."
Greg smiled and walked to the fridge. He opened it and peered inside. An oven mitt him in the back of the head.
"Get out of the fridge. Dinner will be ready in 10 minutes. Go back to working on your crossword puzzle."
Greg sat down at the table and watched Gil finish cooking. It was a simple meal of pasta with a meat sauce. It wasn't a gourmet meal, but it was with Gil and that was good enough.
‘God, I sound like one of those slash stories I read one night on live journal,' Greg thought as he continued to watch.
Gil plated the food and set one down in front of Greg. They ate in a comfortable silence. After seeing what they see everyday, it's kinda hard to have a dinner conversation about work. Greg cleaned the kitchen and the remainders of dinner before going back to the living room to work on his crossword puzzle. Gil watched Greg for a little bit before sitting next to him with one of his entomology books.
"Why are you working so hard on this crossword puzzle?"
"Because not all of us are as intelligent as you. I can't pull facts out of my ass. I have to research."
"I have done my research. I'm not Doctor Gil Grissom because I didn't work."
"I know that. Still, I at least want to pretend that I am as smart as you."
"Greg we have been through this before. I am the way I am because I spent my entire life in books. I didn't want people's pity because of my mother, so I decided to avoid people all together. I don't think anyone could run the lab like you do. Your just as smart as I am, only at different things."
Greg shifted on the couch so his head was in Gil's lap. One of Gil's hands wove into Greg's hair and gently rubbed Greg's scalp. Greg closed his eyes for a second and let out a content sigh. ‘I'll have to post this day in my live journal. I'll make everyone jealous.' They laid like that for an hour before Gil got up to take a shower. Greg took this opportunity to update his live journal. He knew Gil would probably would think this was a trivial thing to do, But Greg loved it. Where else could he blab about his wonderful sex life with his boss and not risk loosing his job.
After logging in as bug_man_lover and cruising his friends list, he decided to make his post.
‘ Today my lover made us dinner tonight. Nothing special, just pasta and sauce. We didn't talk a lot during dinner. It was a real gruesome day at work today, and that kinda wasn't the right topic for dinner.
I had another insecure fit today, which he quickly squashed again. Somedays I don't know why he puts up with my paranoid ass sometimes. So we cuddled on the couch for about an hour. He read one of his bug books and I did my crossword puzzle. He just left to go take a shower.
I was thinking of taking him to see that new insect exhibit at the museum. Museum's aren't my scene, but I know it will make him happy. And when he is happy, I am so very happy.
I know I am sounding like a fluff character. So what? I am so freaking happy right now.
I don't know how long he is going to stay here with me, but he's mine now. And I love him more than anything. ' Greg heard Gil get out of the shower, so he quickly exited the site and went back to the couch, making it look like he never went on the computer. When Gil came into the living room only wrapped in a towel, Greg found it very hard to breathe.
"Wanna take a shower while I get dressed?"
"Ah...yeah. Shower, right."
Gil smirked at Greg's loss of words. He knew that's how Greg would react.
After getting dressed, Gil went to the computer. He wanted to order some new books and a few things for Greg. After he was done doing his shopping he noticed that there was a web page still open. He knew then that Greg had been on the computer while he was in the shower.
Hoping it wasn't anything dirty, Gil clicked on the page. Gil was surprised to see that it was an on-line journal account. After scanning some of the entries, Gil realized that it was Greg's. He was touched by all the remarks that Greg had made about him.
After shutting down the computer, he sat back and thought about his feelings for Greg. He didn't say how he felt about Greg out loud. And if Greg was willing to admit his feelings to a bunch of strangers, why couldn't he at least tell Greg that he loved him. Hearing the water shut off in the bathroom, Gil decided it was time to tell Greg how he felt. He smiled at the thought of Greg's face when he confessed his love.
And that made it all worth it.
