Every three months Alexx goes through the lab signing everyone up to give blood. She was also the one that signed the team up to be tested and put on the bone marrow donor list. Speed humored her and each quarter gave a pint of blood, to make her happy. Little did he know that one day it would be her he would be saving.

They were all surprised when she announced that she had been diagnosed with leukemia. Horatio held Speed as he cried, afraid of losing the only woman who had ever been a mother to him.

Then the news came in. Speed was a match.

Horatio stood on the deck and watched as mom and son talked quietly. Alexx had been in remission for five years now. The scare had brought the two even closer. In Alexx’s eyes it just proved Speed was her boy. For Speed, Alexx had been and always would be mom.
