Title: Point Of View
By: sarcasticsra
Summary: Nick has a cat named Midnight.
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Rating: PG-13, for implied make-outs.
A/N: Thanks to Kelly for the betaMidnight sometimes wondered what it would be like to be human.
His human, Nick Stokes, was an interesting person. Attentive enough, but not too annoying. Midnight appreciated that.
His human also had a friend. “G,” Nick called him most of the time, or sometimes he called him “Greg.” He was nice, too; Greg was always willing to pet Midnight or give him a treat. Nick would roll his eyes and say, “Stop spoiling the cat, G,” but Midnight didn’t mind one bit.
Nick and his friend were really friendly. They didn’t groom each other, like Midnight did when he met a new friend, but they were often on the couch with their faces pressed so close together, Midnight wondered how they could breathe. They made lots of noises when they did that, too, which Midnight thought were vaguely worrying. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, though, so Midnight didn’t do anything. Still, it was kind of odd, so Midnight was curious.
“Nick, I swear your cat stares at us,” Greg would say, and Nick would laugh.
“G, you’re losing it.”
Humans were a little strange, sometimes.
Occasionally, when Nick and Greg were cuddled together on the couch but not making any of those noises, Midnight would jump up on them and fit in between them. He liked Greg all right, but Nick was his human. He had to make sure Greg understood this.
Other times, Nick and his friend looked upset, and Nick would mutter about how much work could suck when he petted him. Midnight purred louder on those days. He wanted to make his human feel better.
When Nick and Greg fought, Midnight would curl up next to Nick in his bed to cheer him up, even if it involved a lot of loud yelling that Midnight didn’t appreciate. It was just that his human always looked so miserable after those fights, and he was sure he’d never seen Nick manage to make an entire day before he contacted Greg on that thing called a “phone.”
Midnight was curious about Nick and his friend. Cats were independent, aloof creatures, but humans seemed to need to pair off. It was like they needed a companion. He thought that was nice, in a way, because a companion of your own species was good to have around. But he knew it was kind of sad, too, if you never found the right friend.
He tried to tell Nick once that he was lucky having Greg as his friend. It was one of those days where they were all on the couch - Nick, Greg, and Midnight - and Nick was alternating between petting Midnight and petting Greg. Nick seemed to know what he was saying, because he grinned at Greg suddenly after, so Midnight was satisfied.
He knew from watching Nick that being a human was interesting and complicated, so while sometimes he wondered what it would be like, most of the time, he was simply happy being feline.
With humans like Nick and Greg to take care of him, though, who could blame him?
