They knew there was sexual tension. Hell, everyone knew. It had been there since day one - the day Greg Sanders had come to work at the lab. Jim Brass, not impressed with having to hire another new person against his will, had dumped the newbie on Nick Stokes who had happened to be passing by the office. The moment they'd seen each other, the first spark of tension had flared.

That was years ago, and the tension had built. But hell, who said they couldn't deny it? They were ladies men to the core - frequent dates, even more frequent flirting, forever comparing notes on their latest conquests as they duked it out on the latest Playstation or Xbox game.

They had a great act going, even if they were only doing it for themselves. Nick, talking about always having a date after work - spent the off-time home alone watching bird documentaries. Greg, on the phone to his girlfriends - talking to the dial-tone. But it worked. No one knew what they really felt, especially not each other.

They got on well. Nick loved Greg's coffee; Greg liked Nick's company. Nothing more to it. No wet dreams about each other, no secretly checking each other out, no subtle flirting... nope, none of that. They were completely straight. No attraction there at all. No sexual tension.

So, when they were sitting in the break room discussing their latest case over coffee and Greg put his feet up on the seat next to Nick, Nick's hand didn't twitch like he wanted to touch. And when Nick stood, wanting to get away and accidentally brushing by Greg on the way to refill his coffee, Greg didn't shudder nor the place of the touch burn.

When they were in the car on the way to the crime scene, they didn't watch each other out the corner of each other's eye. And when arrest was made, they didn't secretly have an urge to hug each other with relief - they both hated rape cases. Nor did they ogle each other's bodies when changing in the locker room.

When they went for a beer, they didn't fall into awkward yet welcome silences. Nor did they flirt like mad. Nor did Greg invite Nick to his place, just to check out the new Grand Theft Auto game. And, of course, Nick never accepted. They didn't spend a couple of hours playing that game, pretending everything was ‘cool' but unconsciously moving closer together on the couch. Nor did they finally notice that their knees were brushing, making them look at each other, their breath catching in their throats. They didn't give into that sexual tension.

And, naturally, they never pounced on each other, lips locked, hands exploring and clothes flying everywhere.

Nope, never happened at all.
