The sound thundered in his ears. The impact of the bullet sent him to the ground gasping for breath. All sound around him suddenly went down to a dull roar. He couldn’t hear Horatio screaming his name. He could only concentrate on trying to breath.

“Speed!” Horatio knelt next to him. “You’re going to be okay, buddy, it hit your vest.”

Speed looked up at him, reaching for the redhead.

”Take small calming breathes.” Horatio held his hand as they waited for the paramedics. “Thank God you decided to wear a vest.”

He would never tell his lover about the dream he had had, when all he heard was the roar of thunder then nothing.
