The night shift was nearly over and Catherine made her way through the hallway, on her way to the break room for one last cup of coffee before she headed home. She noticed Grissom having a conversation through the open door of the locker room.

"Sorry Greg, but I need you here," she heard Gil say, not looking sorry at all as he turned to head back to his office.

As she got closer to the locker room, she could hear Greg's voice. He was speaking softly into his cell phone. Catherine poked her head in to see Greg sitting on the bench, shoulders slumped in a depressing posture. She couldn't help but overhear his end of the conversation.

"Sorry baby... I wanted to be with you too... I know it sucks... I'm going crazy too... I miss you too... yeah okay, bye." Greg closed his phone and lowered his head into his hands.

Catherine entered the room and cleared her throat, getting Greg's attention. "Bad news Greggo?"

"Yeah, it's my night off and Grissom's making me stay," Greg complained.

"So you had to cancel your date," Catherine surmised, giving him a sympathetic look.

Greg nodded and let out a long sigh, "The worst part is we haven't been able to get together for almost two weeks," Greg explained holding up two fingers for emphasis. "Either one of us is working and the other is off or we're both working."

"Sounds frustrating," Catherine replied. "But it's the nature of the business Greg, we've all been there."

"I know, but it still sucks," Greg said.

"Well, look at it this way…when you do finally get together it will be so much better because you had to wait," Catherine assured him.

Greg shrugged his shoulders in response. "I guess," he reluctantly agreed.

"Well, I gotta go…good luck," Catherine said as she turned and walked away, leaving Greg alone with his misery and once again headed toward the break room.

Catherine entered the break room where she found Nick sitting at the table, staring into a still full cup of coffee and looking like he just lost his best friend. She strode over to the coffee machine.

"Hey Nick," Catherine greeted him as she poured herself some coffee.

"Hey Cath," Nick replied, sounding as dejected as he looked.

"You okay?" Catherine asked, taking a seat next to him.

"I'm fine."

"Hey, this is me you're talking to Nicky, you don't seem fine. Wanna talk about it?" She asked.

Nick slowly raised his eyes to look at her as he reached around to rub the back of his neck. Then he crossed his arms in front of him.

"It's no big deal," Nick began, "It's just that I've been seeing someone and we were supposed to get together after work but we had to cancel."

"Hmmm, I see. Did they give you the brush off?" Catherine asked, as she reached out and patted his arm.

"Oh no, no, nothing like that," Nick maintained. "It was their night off but they had to work."

Catherine suddenly had that deja vu feeling come over her. Didn't she just have this same conversation with Greg moments ago? A puzzle began to form in her mind, putting the pieces together. Follow the evidence; it was the CSI in her.

A) Greg had to cancel his date because he had to work on what was supposed to be his day off.
B) Nick's date cancels because they are forced to work on their day off.

Could the two situations be related, she wondered, could Nick and Greg...'No, no, no' she reasoned with herself, just circumstantial evidence, nothing more than a coincidence. She shook it off.

"That's too bad Nick, I know how difficult it can be," Catherine said as she began sipping her coffee.

"Yeah, it is difficult," Nick continued, "even more so since we haven't spent any time together in two weeks," Nick held up two fingers to demonstrate.

Instantly an image of Greg holding up two fingers in the same fashion earlier flashed through her mind, immediately followed by an image of Nick and Greg together naked, their sweat-soaked bodies writhing beneath silken sheets. She sucked in a breath as realization dawned on her; unfortunately for Catherine it happened as she was swallowing her coffee. She coughed violently, spewing the hot liquid all over the table in front of her. Nick, alarmed at seeing his co-worker red faced and choking stood up from the table and began to gently smack Catherine on the back.

"Whoa, Cath, are you okay!?" Nick said with alarm, wondering if he should call for help.

Catherine tried to answer but all that came out was a squeak and another round of coughing. Finally she cleared her throat a few times. "I'm fine," she said as she grabbed a napkin to wipe her watery eyes.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure." Catherine chuckled and cleaned up the mess she made on the table as Nick relieved she was okay took his seat again.

"What's so funny?" Nick asked with a confused expression.

"Oh nothing," Catherine looked at her watch. "I'd better get going."

"See ya," Nick replied as he watched her leave the room.

Once again she was on her way through the hallway. She knew the evidence supported her theory but she wanted to be sure. As she walked, Catherine formed a plan to find out. It would mean sacrificing her day off, but if she was right it would be well worth it. She came across Grissom and Greg in the hall, preparing to leave the building. She was just in time to stop them.

"Gil," Catherine called out, "got a second?"

"Okay but quickly, we have to go. The crime scene’s not going to process itself." Gil answered.

"Excuse us Greg," Catherine said and she pulled Grissom aside as Greg nodded and leaned against the nearest wall, he stared helplessly towards the break room and the object of his desire, and sighed heavily.

"Gil, I was thinking that I could use some more overtime. I wanna work this case with you, so let Greg go and I'll take his place." Catherine suggested.

"Are you sure about that Catherine?" Gil asked, "Don't you want to spend time with Lindsey?"

"She's in school right now and besides, she's sleeping at her friend’s house tonight so I wouldn't see her anyway. Tomorrow night off would be better for me."

"Fine," Gil said then turned his attention to Greg. "Greg, change of plans, you can go."

"Really?" Greg asked in disbelief, a smile on his face that could have lit up the hallway.

"Yes really," Grissom answered rolling his eyes.

"Thank you!" Greg said excitedly, pushing off the wall he was holding up.

Catherine smiled as she watched Greg retrieve his cell phone from his pocket and dialed a number, then ducked into the nearest empty room. She glanced down the hall and into the break room to witness Nick answering his phone. A huge smile appeared on his face and he pumped his fist in the air with excitement. Catherine was pleased as the last piece of the puzzle fell into place; she was right and once again her thoughts were filled with images of Nick and Greg, their naked, sweat-soaked bodies writhing together beneath silken sheets...
