Nick looked out through the kitchen window to check on Gil. Nick could see him out by the pool in his lounge chair reading one of his forensic journals. Though Gil had been retired for a few years, he still tried to stay abreast of the new techniques and advances being made in forensics. In his words, he was keeping his mind sharp. At 75, his mind was still plenty sharp.

Nick didn’t worry about the latest forensics stuff anymore. He had walked away from the lab after getting shot and almost dying 3 years before. Greg was running the lab now, and doing a damn fine job of it. Since Nick had stopped working, he spent his days living and loving Gil. For as long as they had been together, one would think they would be tired of each other by now. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Nick was thankful that they were still together, and that they still loved each other so much. He never dreamed he would be lucky enough to get Gil, much less keep him. They’d had their ups and downs, but had managed to make it work. Nick knew he wouldn’t trade the memories they had made for anything. Nick knew he was a lucky man indeed. He decided to go back and check on Gil again. He smiled when he realized Gil had fallen asleep. He knew he’d better go wake him up so he wouldn’t get sunburned…..
