Greg sighed as he let the living room curtains fall back into place; try as he might, he couldn't see anyone lurking outside on the sidewalk, or across the street. There were no unusual cars on the street, either -- it didn't seem that Shane was coming after him.

But he was, Greg reminded himself with a shudder. That letter he'd gotten proved it. Shane wasn't going to give up until Greg was right where Shane wanted him to be.

Dead, Greg told himself, suppressing another shudder. Shane wanted him dead. His ex-boyfriend blamed him for everything that had happened in the last few months, even though none of it was his fault. Shane had brought all of his problems on himself, but he would never believe that.

He was still out there, and he wasn't going to simply vanish.

Waiting for him to make a move wasn't going to accomplish anything, other than to get either himself or Nick hurt, Greg thought, suppressing a sigh. Shane was in the wind; they had no leads as to where he was, and it would be easy for him to keep tabs on them.

If he was the kind of person who turned to prayer, then he'd be on his knees to any deity he thought might be able to help them. But that had never been something he believed in; no matter how people had tried to push it at him, prayer wasn't a solution.

The only real solution would be to actively go out looking for Shane, and to confront him. But he knew better than to try something like that, even if he had the entire CSI team at his back. They could only do so much to protect him; it was too risky a proposition.

Praying that Shane would stay away from him, and that his ex-boyfriend would be caught and brought to justice for the crimes he'd committed, wasn't going to work. He needed the police to take action. That was the only way that Shane would end up behind bars.

Sitting around and waiting for Shane's next move was driving him insane.

Greg clenched his fists, feeling a wave of frustration wash over him. He hated having to take a passive role; waiting for something to happen wasn't his style, and patience had never been one of his finer qualities. He wanted all of this to be over, sooner rather than later.

If only there was some magic wand that he could wave and make all of this go away, he would do it. But that wasn't possible. He had to learn to deal with it.

Maybe he should start praying, Greg thought, a cynical smile tugging at his lips for a few moments. But somehow, he didn't think that even the most assiduous prayer would do any good at this point. No, all he could do was wait, and hope that he would come out of this all in one piece.
