There was an ominous silence at the crime scene.

Ryan glanced around nervously, wishing that Greg hadn't insisted on coming back here. The place gave him the creeps, in too many ways to name.

He could understand why Greg wanted to look around the crime scene again, after his boyfriend had explained to him just what he'd felt while they were here. He could easily believe that Greg was sensitive to paranormal occurrences; he'd known others who were, as well.

But being here made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end; it made him feel as though the two of them were being watched by eyes that weren't of this world.

He hated that feeling of being silently observed.

And the silence in the place was .... well, eerie was the only word he had for the feeling. It was as though the air was charged with a kind of tense electricity.

Ryan was just waiting for something to happen, something that the two of them didn't expect. He was absolutely sure that something -- or someone -- was going to leap out at them, brandishing a gun or a knife, and that either he or Greg, or both of them, would have to fight for their lives.

So far, it hadn't happened, but he'd had too much experience with crime scenes to doubt that it could happen. He'd been a CSI, and a cop before that, for too long.

He could sense some malevolent presence here, that was certain. It was unmistakable. But unlike Greg, Ryan wasn't sure that it was a paranormal presence.

He didn't think that what he was feeling came from the "other side." He was sure that it was the person who had been here in this house and murdered this family, and that whoever it was had decided that he wasn't finished with his murder spree yet. He was still out for blood.

Ryan was also sure that the man wouldn't mind taking down two CSIs and putting them on his list of victims. He and Greg needed to get out of here, and quickly.

He touched Greg's shoulder, frowning at his boyfriend.

"Greg, there's somebody here. I agree with you about that. But I think we're in danger. I don't think we should be here alone. We need to bring backup next time we come."

Greg nodded slowly, scowling as he looked around. "I can feel something, Ryan. I know I can. But I don't know if it's just the bad vibes from people being murdered here, or if it's something paranormal." He sighed softly, turning towards the door. "Come on. Let's get out of here."

Ryan breathed a sigh of relief once they were outside in the Denali; he just wanted to leave, to put some distance between the two of them and that disconcerting presence.

Neither of them realized that a narrowed gaze followed them as they left.
