Damn, he hated to keep things from Greg.

Mike sighed as he sat down on the couch in Greg's living room, looking up at the clock. This was his last day on the morning shift at the crime lab; after this, he and Greg would be working together, and it would be harder than ever to keep their relationship a secret.

He was not only keeping what he shared with Greg a secret from the other people he worked with, but he was also keeping his past hidden from the man he loved. He knew that it was wrong of him to keep secrets from Greg, but he couldn't let this one out quite yet.

He had a few more things to take care of, justice to dispense, and then he could tell Greg all about his past, and let his lover make his own choice about their future.

If only it didn't feel so wrong to keep this all under wraps, Mike told himself with an inward sigh. It got harder and harder with each passing day not to just break down and tell Greg everything, and try to enlist his help in the plans that he'd made.

No, he didn't want to involve Greg in any of this. He already felt dirty as it was; this was a nasty business, and he didn't want to drag his fianceƩ into this mess. It was his problem, and he would deal with it alone, in his own way.

Just the thought of making Greg a part of his revenge made him feel sick; he didn't want to tar his boyfriend with the same brush that he himself would be blackened with. Greg had to be kept out of this; he had to keep his past secret for a while longer.

If only that evil old man hadn't followed him here, Mike thought, his hands clenching into fists. If only, if only .... it felt like "if only" was the story of his entire life. Well, once his plan had been implemented, there would be no more "if onlys" to hold him back.

He didn't want to keep feeling dirty. He wanted to be able to wash those guilty feelings away, to cleanse himself in the love that he and Greg shared.

It wouldn't be long now, Mike told himself with a heavy sigh. He would be able to put his plan for revenge into action, and hopefully, he wouldn't have to spend the rest of his life behind bars. It was, after all, only fair that he strike back.

An eye for an eye. He'd always believed that, even though as a cop, he knew that he should turn the other cheek. But this was his life that had been dangled on a string, used to another's advantage before that thread was cut and his life had fallen apart.

And now matter how dirty it made him feel, he wasn't going to turn back now.
