Ryan glanced up at Greg as the two of them browsed through bookstore shelves, smiling as he caught a few people looking Greg's way. His boyfriend always attracted attention, and Ryan didn't blame people for looking at him. He was a beautiful man.
Greg looked even better this morning than he usually did, in Ryan's opinion. It was Sunday, and they both had the day off; they'd worked on Saturday, and they'd been given Monday off as well to make up for that. So they had decided to spend part of their weekend shopping.
It was funny how Greg always said that reading wasn't one of his favorite things to do, but when he found a book on a subject that he was interested in, he could get lost in it for hours. Ryan had been surprised to see just how many books Greg had, especially about Vegas crime syndicates.
He knew that his boyfriend had written a book, but the death of one of his close friends who had been a CSI along with him had kept him from going to a meeting with a publisher. Ryan hoped that he could talk Greg into having that book published someday.
Ryan hadn't read any of the book that Greg had written, but he wanted to. He knew that Greg had a bright light inside him, one that he wanted to let shine out into the world. That book was part of the light that Greg deserved to be seen in, the light that radiated from him.
It wasn't fair that he'd been denied that chance, and Ryan intended to make sure that he got it. But for some reason, Greg seemed to be reluctant about trying to have the book published now. Ryan wasn't sure why, but he would find out his boyfriend's reasons for that.
Maybe it was because he felt that it would somehow be disloyal to his friend if he finished what he'd been about to start on the day of that person's death. Ryan didn't think that sounded like Greg, but until he knew for certain what the reasoning was, he wouldn't make any judgments.
Still, he was going to do his best to talk Greg into going back to the publishers and trying to get his book in print. It was something that he felt would close a chapter in Greg's life, and hopefully would also move him forward into something new that Ryan was sure he was ready for.
It was no wonder that people were so drawn to Greg, Ryan mused, watching surreptitiously as two young women stared at his boyfriend, then giggled together behind their hands. It wasn't just his beauty; Greg had a radiance about him that couldn't help but draw attention.
He'd noticed that bright radiance when he'd first met Greg; he might not have seen it front and center at the time, but there had been an aura about this man that had drawn Ryan to him like a moth to a flame. He hadn't been able to tear his eyes away.
At first, he'd thought it was just because Greg was so gorgeous. But it had been much more than that; he had been drawn to this man because of that brightness that shone out of him. There was such a sense of .... goodness that surrounded Greg. It was impossible to resist.
Here was a man who would always try to do the right thing, someone who cared deeply about people and would try to help them, no matter what. Greg was selfless; he was the most generous, compassionate, giving person that Ryan had ever known.
That was the bright aura that surrounded Greg, Ryan thought with a smile. It was the generosity, the almost innocent air about him, that was so attractive. He was an ingenuous, open person, someone who seemed eminently approachable -- and a nice guy.
It was no wonder that people were drawn to him, that they found him a comforting presence. What would he himself have done without that presence in his life over the past few months? Ryan didn't want to think about what his life would be like without Greg in it.
He would hve enjoyed being in Vegas even if he'd never met Greg, but he might have fallen back into some old bad habits. The casinos were always a temptation in the back of his mind; thanks to having Greg as part of his life, he was able to push that temptation aside.
He was happy and fulfilled, and all because of the bright shining light in his life that came form loving Greg Sanders. He needed nothing else than to be in love with this man; everything else in his life was only the icing on a very satisfying cake.
Greg was a ray of light in his life, one that he'd never thought he would find. He'd given up looking for that kind of light, thinking that he would always be alone. But he'd simply been looking in the wrong places -- and he'd known that when Greg had come into his life.
Ryan had always heard that the best relationships came when you weren't looking for them -- and he was sure now that it was the truth. He had never expected to find the love of his life working right alongside him, the person who he was partnered with at work and away from it.
He had long since given up on dating anyone he worked with; it might not have been frowned upon in Miami the way it was here in Vegas, but he'd discovered the pitfalls of doing that. The betrayals and jealousy weren't something he liked dealing with.
But that wasn't going to happen here. Not with Greg. Yes, he would be jealous if someone else tried to flirt with his boyfriend; he would be angry, but at the other person, not at Greg. He knew that his lover didn't want anyone else; Greg belonged to him completely.
Just as he belonged to Greg, he thought, his smile growing as he watched his boyfriend pull a book about Vegas crime families off the shelf and leaf through it. He couldn't help it; Greg was such a bright beacon in his life that he was drawn towards that light.
Would anyone else have made him feel this way? Ryan didn't think so. Greg was one of a kind, the only person who he'd ever want to be with. No one else held the slightest bit of interest for him in a romantic way; Greg was his one and only, from the moment they'd first met.
Greg was the bright beacon in his life, now and forever. He knew that his boyfriend would always be there, and that he would always be an inspiration, as well as the love of his life. There was nothing that could dim the bright aura that Greg radiated -- at least not for him.
Moving towards his boyfriend, Ryan slipped an arm around Greg's waist, drawing him close and pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek. "Come on, babe, let's get out of here and go get lunch," he whispered into Greg's ear. "And then I want to take you home and ravish you."
"Promise?" Greg asked with a soft laugh, glancing at Ryan from under lowered lashes. Ryan could feel his heart skip a beat whenever Greg looked at him that way; it was one of the sexiest things he'd ever seen, and all he wanted now was to get Greg home behind closed doors.
"I promise," he murmured, his tone breathless. Greg laughed again, heading towards the front of the store for the checkout counter with the book he'd decided to buy. Ryan smiled to himself as he followed, sure that they were going to forget about lunch and go directly home from here.***
