This silence was driving him crazy.

Greg stood up from where he'd been seated in the comfortable chair in his hotel room, pacing the floor. He hated being here, hated knowing that he wasn't safe in his own home. But Russell had insisted that he stay here, and he hadn't taken no for an answer.

The last thing he'd wanted was to be away from his home, but his boss -- and his colleagues at the crime lab -- hadn't given him much of a choice. He knew they only wanted to protect him, but that protection was starting to feel more like a prison.

Everybody wanted what was best for him, and so did he. But he couldn't help feeling that being stuck here wasn't the best thing he could be doing at the moment.

He wanted to help his colleagues find his stalker.

That was something else he wasn't allowed to do -- he couldn't work on a case where he was the potential victim. Not only was it against all the rules of the crime lab, but the people he worked with weren't going to put him in that kind of danger.

Still, he couldn't just sit here and do nothing. The silence of his hotel room was going to drive him insane if he had to endure it any longer. Though somehow, turning the tv on or listening to music on his iPod didn't seem like they would alleviate that silence.

That wasn't the kind of noise he was looking for. He needed company, conversation. He needed something to take his mind off the fact that some crazy person was stalking him and wanted to end his life, not to mention whatever else they wanted to do to him,.

He wasn't naive enough to think that this person simply wanted to kill him. Oh, no. Not with the kind of threats they'd already sent him. They were looking at him as some kind of .... trophy. He didn't even want to think of what they might have planned.

It scared him way too much to think about that.

He needed to talk to somebody, though, just to get his fears out in the open, and hopefully get them out of his mind. Maybe if he talked about how he was feeling, then the fear would diminish. Funny how it seemed to be amplified now that he was in a safe place.

When he'd been at home, he had felt less scared. But here, in this hotel, he suddenly felt more vulnerable, even with people around to protect him.

Reaching for his cell phone, he dialed Russell's number with a shaking hand. Maybe his boss would come over and talk to him, once he understood how the silence was freaking Greg out. And having some company for a while would definitely do him good.

He needed to banish this silence, before it could add to his escalating fear.
