Ryan glanced over at Greg as the two of them sat at their desks in the office they shred, filling out reports on the last crime scenes they'd been to. It was one of the things he usually didn't like about CSI work, but now that he shared an office with his boyfriend, he didn't mind it.

There were times when it actually felt restful to sit here and write reports with Greg right across the desk from him, when he could look up and see the man he loved concentrating on his work. It gave him a warm glow -- and made him feel that he wanted Greg more than ever.

He wished that he could relinquish his hold on the control he kept himself under whenever they were working and simply lean across the desk to kiss Greg; he'd never wanted to press his lips to his boyfriend's as much as he did at this moment, when Greg was looking so desirable.

There was something seductive in the way that he had a tendency to chew on the cap of his ball-point pen; Ryan had a hard time keeping his gaze off Greg's mouth whenever he did that. It only made him want to kiss the other man even more, until they were both dizzy with desire.

But that was impossible to do while they were working; they might be able to steal a kiss here and there, but this wasn't the time. They were sitting in their office with the blinds up, and anyone could walk by in the hallway at any moment. He had to stay in control.

Ryan held back a sigh as he glanced over at Greg again; his boyfriend was writing furiously, as though he was trying to get the report done as quickly as he could so he could move on to other aspects of his job. Ryan thought the look of concentration made him look incredibly sexy.

If he could do anything he wanted right now, he would move to the other side of the desk, take Greg's hands and raise him to his feet -- then lean forward to kiss him until a raging fire blazed between them before he bent Greg over the desk and yanked his pants down .....

He closed his eyes, catching himself before he could let that fantasy go too far. If they were at home, he would have no problem doing exactly as he'd been thinking -- and Greg would probably enjoy it, too. But they weren't at home. They were working, in a public place.

It was so frustrating to have to keep such a tight rein on himself at work when it came to Greg. In any other place, they would be able to show their feelings for each other with nothing more than a simply touch, a look, a smile. But even with those little things, they had to be careful.

It would be so easy to give too much away -- and Ryan couldn't help feeling that some of the CSI team were waiting for something like that to happen, so they could go running to Ecklie with what they thought they knew. So they had to exert control over their feelings.

That control was hard-won, but he could keep it in place. After all, he only had to wait until they got home to be with Greg in any way he wanted; behind closed doors, in the privacy of their own home, they could let their emotions out however they chose.

But here, that control had to reign. They couldn't show that they were anything more to each other than close friends and colleagues; it was obvious that they cared about each other, but they couldn't let anyone suspect more than that, or they would be in trouble.

How he hated that caution! He wanted to toss it to the winds, to forget about it and simply let his emotions run free. He wanted to express what was in his heart -- though realistically, he knew that if he did, he and Greg would both risk more than they were willing to lose.

Having a few moments of unbridled passion here in the office wasn't worth losing their jobs over. They both loved what they did, and even with the restrictive rules they were kept under, neither of them wanted to give up doing this job. They'd both be lost without it.

Their jobs didn't define them, but they went a long way towards making both of them happy. Ryan didn't want either of them to forfeit that happiness; they'd both worked hard to get to where they were, and he knew that neither of them wanted to give that up.

Besides, he'd just come here recently. He didn't want to jeopardize the job that he'd traveled halfway across the country for -- and he didn't have to. He could be with Greg when they weren't working; it was just hard to keep his hands -- and his thoughts -- to himself during their working hours.

Greg was such a beautiful temptation, he thought with a soft smile as he regarded his boyfriend across the desk. Who wouldn't want him? It was still hard for him to believe that Greg hadn't been snapped up long before he'd shown up in Vegas, and that he was lucky enough to have this man.

Of course, given Greg's troubled past, he shouldn't be surprised that his boyfriend had held back from being in a serious relationship. Ryan was just glad that he had been the one to bring Greg out of those shadows and bring him to the full bloom of sensual beauty.

He'd had to hold himself back until Greg was ready for them to be physical -- so he could hold himself back now. As much as he'd like to let his feelings show, he wasn't willing to put their jobs in jeopardy -- and he knew that Greg wouldn't thank him for it if he did.

Still, it was so hard to sit here and look at his beautiful boyfriend without wanting to pounce on him. If only this place was as open and relaxed about relationships as his CSI team in Miami had been! Ryan sighed, almost wishing that the two of them were back there.

No, he wouldn't want to go back to Miami. He had never felt comfortable there; the other team members had always made it clear that they resented him for replacing Speedle, and they had never let him feel as though he was an intrinsic part of the team -- or even that he was appreciated.

He was much better off here; he didn't need to look backwards, only forwards. The future was what mattered -- his future here with the CSI team in Vegas, and more importantly, his future with Greg. Miami was a part of his past, one that he didn't need to revisit.

He was happy right where he was -- but he'd be a lot happier if that idiotic rule about CSIs not being able to date anyone they worked on the same shift with was obliterated. Though that probably wasn't going to happen for a long time, Ryan thought with a soft sigh.

He'd have to keep himself under control for as long as that rule was in effect -- and it kept getting harder to do, especially on days like this, when all he wanted to do was take his boyfriend in his arms and kiss him breathless, not caring who might be watching them.

That wasn't something he'd be able to do for a long time -- and maybe never, here in the office. But at least he had Greg in his life, and they could be together when they were at home behind closed doors. As long as he had that, then he was a happy man.

His beautiful temptation would be there for him when they went home, he thought with a smile. And he intended to let that temptation sweep him away and take both of them to heights that they'd never been to before -- heights that he hoped they'd stay in for the rest of their lives.
