Greg was in the middle of showing Nick how to use some of the new software that Archie had brought in, when Warrick came in. To say the guy looked bad would have been an understatement. Greg didn't remember what case Warrick had been working on, but it was obvious that it had gotten to Warrick. So, when Warrick asked Nick to go out for drinks, he'd encouraged Nick to go. Even if that meant blowing off their anniversary dinner. Friends were important to Nick, especially in their time of need, Greg understood that. Or he at least tried to.

After canceling the dinner reservations, he made his way to the locker room. Nick and Warrick were there, their usual semi-macho bantering annoyed Greg more than usual. Especially since Nick always tried a little too hard. It made Greg feel as if he didn't really know the other man all that well. It did remind him of the way Nick was before they were together. The way he had often tried to cover up his insecurities by acting a little arrogant. Not that he had fooled anybody. Well, at least not those he had intended to fool. Grissom and Greg.

Warrick was the first to leave, mumbling something to Nick about meeting him outside and waving vaguely at Greg before heading out. Nick was apparently trying to do something with his hair, Greg wasn't too sure about that, because no matter what Nick did it always looked the same to Greg. Nick ran his hand through his hair, shooting Greg a small smile before asking, "Okay?"

Greg hesitated briefly, realizing that Nick wasn't referring to his hair and then he nodded, not wanting to show Nick that it did bother him. "Enjoy yourself," he said, already on his way out.

Nick caught up with him just before he left the building, grabbing his arm tightly so he had no choice but to stop walking. He turned around to face Nick, expecting anger, surprised to see Nick smiling.

"If you don't want me to go, that's fine, G."

Greg could barely stop himself from saying just that, because although he really didn't want Nick to go, he didn't want to be that person. "It's really okay, Nick. Go."

Nick didn't look like he believed him but he didn't say anything. Instead, he leaned over, his lips brushing over Greg's, only briefly.

~

As he watched Nick leave, he couldn't help but smile. Sure, it had been just a little kiss, and someone who had blinked had probably missed it. But still, Nick kissed him. At work. That was something new. And no matter how nice the anniversary dinner would have been, he wasn't sure that it would have topped this. Still smiling, he left the building and made his way to his car.

Once Greg got home he went straight for the fridge, pulling out two beers and shaking his head as he put one of the bottles back into the fridge.
