Previous story in series - The Need

Tony slowly opened his eyes and winced in pain as he stretched out of the sheets. He blinked in surprise as he looked around and realized that he wasn’t in his bedroom.

Tony looked down to his waists and saw some red marks and suddenly remembered last night. He groaned in embarrassment and was about to get up from the bed, when Don came in with coffee.

“I see you’re up,” Don grinned as he handed the coffee to Tony who blushed. “We will talk when you’re dressed.”

Tony lowered his head as he took the coffee, not wanting to look straight at Don. He heard the door closing.

Placing the coffee on the bedside table, Tony hung his head in his hands and groaned. ‘What have I done?’ Tony thought to himself. He didn’t want to go out, knowing that Don will be out there waiting for him.

Tony sighed; it would be better to get it over and done with. He pushed up from the bed and got to get dressed.

Don was in the kitchen, thinking about last night. He was angry with Gibbs for leaving him like that. He has never saw Tony like that before, so broken and the need in his eyes to submit. Don just hoped that he has made the right decision to make the phone call he made last night.

Don was shocked to find that Tony has done this kind of thing before meeting Gibbs, and continued to do so after meeting Gibbs. Tony told him that he was in love with Gibbs for almost six years before Gibbs realized and took him on as his sub and that after 2 years, Gibbs just threw him away like that without a good reason.

Don was fuming and wanted to punch Gibbs but he had to keep calm for Tony’s sake and vowed to take care of Tony. He regretted not keeping in touch with Tony after meeting up with him five years ago. He squeezed the bridge of his nose and sighed heavily. He just hoped that Tony would be okay.

Don looked up as he heard the door opening and saw Tony cautiously step out of the bedroom.

“You okay?” Don asked, concerned.

“I-I…” Tony kept his eyes away from Don. “…. I have to go to work so I should get a shower and get ready.”

Tony was about to walk towards the bathroom, hoping that Don would let him go but knowing that it wouldn’t work and sighed heavily when he heard Don calling him back.

“Tony, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about,” Don said, as Tony sat down on a stool, eyes down to the ground.

“Oh, yeah, my best buddy caught me in one of the clubs,” Tony said, sarcastically. “Then put me in bounds. That’s nothing to be embarrassed about!”

Don fought to keep the chuckle back, he understood that it was a bit embarrassing but he chose to take care of Tony and wanted to, damnit. He put a hand on Tony’s shoulder. Tony slowly looked up and saw Don smiling.

“I couldn’t let you,” Don said. “What if he hurt you?”

Tony rolled his eyes and titled his head to one side. “That’s perfectly what I wanted.”

“You know what I’m talking about,” Don said in a stern tone. Tony nodded slowly and sighed.

“You could’ve used the safeword, but you didn’t,” Don told Tony. “So I did what I thought was best for you.”

“Yeah, thanks. I appreciate it, Don,” Tony finally smiled. “I just wished that this didn’t have to happen.”

“Yeah, me too,” Don sighed. “I should have told you about the true nature of our relationship at the start. Perhaps then, you could’ve talked to me and this wouldn’t happen.”

Tony stared at Don, in shock. He didn’t expect Don to blame himself and sighed. “It’s not your fault. I-I should’ve told you.”

Don shook his head and sighed. “It happened. Now all we have to do is move forward.”

Tony nodded, agreeing. “What now?”

Don frowned at Tony, as if to ask what Tony meant.

“I-I mean after last night.”

“Oh, well, I vowed to take care of you and that’s what I will do…” Tony looked stricken by that, he didn’t want Don to be his Dom when Don suddenly saw the look on Tony’s face and hurried to say, “.but not in that way! Danny would kill me, for one and you’re my best buddy.”

Tony let out a breath in relief. Don grinned. “I couldn’t give you what you need, anyway.”

Tony looked at Don, surprised and Don held the gaze. Slowly, Tony nodded.

Suddenly Tony let out an exclamation. “Danny! He will kill me!”

Don chuckled and squeezed Tony’s shoulder. “I don’t think he will kill you….maybe kill me, yes but definitely not you!”

Tony grinned and laughed.

Tony was at his desk when he heard footsteps and frowned. It was late at night and he thought he was alone in the offices and looked up to see Mac Taylor standing there. Tony sighed heavily; he didn’t want to see Mac, not after what happened between them.

“What do you want, Mac?” Tony snapped.

Mac was a bit taken aback and blinked. “I thought we could have a talk?”

“About what?”

“What happened with us.”

Tony stared at Mac, coldly. It appeared that Tony didn’t want to talk about it and Mac sighed. “Look, we have to work together. Isn’t it better that we cleared the air?”

Tony sighed and took his jacket off the back of the chair as he stood up. “Not here.”

Mac nodded; he agreed that this was not the best place to talk. “We could go for a coffee?”

Tony agreed and followed Mac out of the building to a Starbucks café around the corner. After paying for coffee, they sat down at a table and drank their drinks in silence.

Then Mac spoke.

“I’m sorry.”

Tony blinked in surprise and turned to Mac. “Wh..what?” Whatever Tony was expecting, it certainly wasn’t that!

“I said I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that. I should’ve trusted you.”

“I-I…” Tony was confused. He continued to stare at Mac. For so long, he has never heard someone apologizing to him especially over work. One of Gibbs’s rules was to never apologize, it was a sign of weakness, so he wasn’t used to someone apologizing to him.

“But I thought you wanted to follow by the book?” Tony asked, confused.

“I do follow by the book, but as Danny and the rest keeps telling me, sometimes it is better to follow your instincts if the evidence wasn’t saying anything,” Mac explained. “But in this case, all the evidence were leading to James…and the axe was in his hand.”

Tony chuckled quietly.

“But as we found out…” Mac stopped and looked at Tony. “…as you found out, it wasn’t James after all. I should’ve listened to you and trusted you.”

Tony slowly nodded. “Yeah, you should’ve. I spent four months working side by side with you on many cases. I didn’t expect for you to speak to me like that or to dismiss my opinions like that, Mac.”

Mac winced, ashamed.

“It hurt that you didn’t trust me,” Tony said, quietly. “I didn’t think that it would happen.”

Mac winced and took Tony’s hand and squeezed it. “I’m truly sorry. I do trust you. I’m a stickler for following the evidence and I can’t change that but I promise you that from now on, I will listen and take your opinions on board. I don’t want to lose you…you are a part of our team.”

Tony sighed and nodded. “Apology accepted. Let’s just learn from it and move on and try to work together.”

Mac beamed and grinned at Tony. “That’s all I wanted.”

Tony took his hand away from Mac and took a sip out of his coffee.

“There’s something I wanted to ask you about,” Mac said. “If you don’t mind?”

Tony shrugged and gestured for Mac to go ahead and ask.

“You said that the evidence wasn’t working for you…” Mac said and Tony groaned. He remembered mentioning it in their argument. “…and I wondered what that was about.”

Tony put his drink down and sighed. “I was set up. I was arrested for a murder and all the evidence was leading to me.”

Mac gasped in shock. ‘What happened?”

“I can’t say much about it but someone got it in for me and wanted to make me suffer so they did everything they could to put me in jail,” Tony explained and smiled as he remembered his team…old team doing everything they could to clear his name. “My old team followed their instincts and did everything they could to clear me. Eventually, Abby found some evidence and cleared me.”

Tony didn’t want to tell Mac about Gibbs and what he did. He closed his eyes and sighed. Gibbs could’ve lost his job doing what he did.

Shaking his head, he opened his eyes and looked at Mac. “That’s why I don’t trust the evidence, only my instincts and trusting you guys.”

Mac nodded in understanding. He regretted what he did now, after hearing about what happened to Tony and understood now why Tony didn’t follow the evidence as much as he should have.

“I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, well…” Tony took his coffee and took another sip.

They sat in silence for a few moments.

“Don called me,” Mac suddenly spoke.

Tony frowned and looked up. “About what?”

“Don told me about last night,” Mac said, quietly. Tony exclaimed in anger and stared at Mac. “He should’ve not done that!”

“Don thought that I could help you,” Mac tried to explain. “He said that he saw you going in one of the clubs but for some reason, you came out without anyone.”

Tony blinked, surprised and realized that Don didn’t tell Mac the full story.

“I don’t know what happened between you and Don, and I don’t want to know,” Mac said, after noticing the look of surprise on Tony’s face and suspected that something did happen between them. “But these clubs are bad for people who are in law enforcement.”

Taking a business card out of his jacket and slid it over to Tony. “Why don’t you come along to this club tomorrow night? It might be what you are looking for.”

Tony looked at the card and all it read was ‘Hush’. Tony took the card, and looked up at Mac, puzzled.

“All of my team are members of that club, and as you might have worked it out, we all are involved in the lifestyle, some in more ways than others. I just thought that you might need a safe place to go to.”

“Why me?” Tony asked. “I mean, I thought you and Adam were involved?”

Mac frowned, confused. Adam? What did he have to do with this and asked Tony what he meant.

Tony flushed with red cheeks. “I-I mean…you and Adam? I…I thought you were asking…never mind.”

Mac suddenly realized that Tony thought Mac was asking him to be his sub and smiled.

“No, I am not asking…I’m trying to be a friend,” Mac explained. Tony groaned, embarrassed. “Trust me to put my foot in my mouth! I’m sorry…”

Mac chuckled and waved it off. “It’s okay…but what about me and Adam?”

Tony was now confused. “I mean…you live together and he is your puppy…isn’t he?” Tony suddenly wasn’t sure about that. He thought he could read people well and now he might have got it wrong about Mac and Adam.

Mac made a low chuckle and looked at Tony, smiling. “I thought you knew…” Tony shook his head. “Adam and I might live together and yes, he is my puppy but that’s all. We have a trainer/pet relationship, nothing more or less. We are friends.” Mac stressed the word ‘friends’.

“Oh…” Tony felt his heart beating quickly and felt relief. “I thought…sorry….I should’ve asked, instead of assuming.”

Mac raised an eyebrow, as if to say that he knew something about him and Adam and Tony blushed.

“Please don’ t tell him…”

Mac put his hands up and told Tony that he won’t tell Adam anything but warned him that if he hurt Adam in anyway that he would hunt him down and kill him.

Tony’s face was suddenly serious. “If I will kill myself before I hurt him.”

Mac smiled. They talked a bit more before leaving the Starbucks café.

Tony had a spring in his steps as he walked over to his apartment. So Adam was free.

Arriving at Don’s apartment, he found it empty. Tony took his jacket off as he made his way to the kitchen, and the business card fell out of it.

Tony saw it falling to the ground, and picked it up. He recognized it from before, when Mac gave it to him.

‘Hush’ was all it said, and Tony turned it over and saw the address. ‘117 25th Street, Brooklyn’.

Taking the cell out, he made a call; to someone Tony knew that might know about the club.
