Abby’s cell rang as she gasped at her screen. She couldn’t believe what she was looking at.

Hearing a ringing noise, Abby turned around and looked for her cell. It was in her handbag and she looked at the id caller display and saw that it was Tony calling and hurried to answer it, excited.

“Hi. Tony!” Abby exclaimed.

“Hey, how are you?”

Abby could hear Tony smile through the phone. “I’m great, missing you loads, of course!”

“Excellent! Listen, I called to ask you if you could find some information about a club called ‘Hush’.”

Abby’s eyes widened as she heard the word ‘Hush’ and exclaimed in excitement. “How did you hear about it? It’s a well-guarded secret!”

“I was given a card by my boss,” Tony explained.

“Oh! Let me bring the website up,” Abby said as she turned to a computer and typed in the address for ‘Hush’.

“Here it is…’Hush’ is a private club and also a support network for people who work in law enforcement and is involved in the bdsm lifestyle, either in a small or big way. We will provide support for you if you need it and…” Abby was interrupted by Tony.

“So, it’s a network of support for all law enforcements? Like FBI, NYPD etc?”

Abby nodded, and then realized that Tony couldn’t see her. “Yeah, it is. But you are only invited to ‘Hush’ – not anyone can just turn up. You have to be a part of a team and you are only invited by the team leader.”

“Oh…why didn’t we hear of it?” Tony sounded curious.

Abby knew the meaning behind the words. She knew that Tony wondered why Gibbs didn’t mention it to them.

“You know what Gibbs’s like. He prefers to do things on his own…” Abby said, quietly.

There was an awkward pause.

“Yeah…well…things must be going good for you if you are invited to ‘Hush’. You must tell me about it!” Abby finally broke the silence.

“I’m going tomorrow so I will find out for myself,” Tony replied then paused, sounding like he was thinking about something and then asked, “How is he?”

Abby sighed as she looked back at the screen; she didn’t want to lie so she said nothing, hoping that Tony understood.

“Oh, okay…”

“Right....okay…erm…I will call you.”

“Wait!”

But the call ended and Abby sighed heavily. She was furious with Gibbs now. Gibbs was really idiot. Abby now understood why Gibbs broke up with Tony.

Several hours earlier

For a few days, Gibbs and the team were working on a mass murder case, where there were several dead bodies found on a Navy ship at one of the piers at the Navy Yard.

Gibbs hoped that Abby would have some results from the fingerprints tests and also some more information about a laptop they found among the dead bodies. McGee thought that it might provide a clue to the identity, and even went to suggest that it might have been a calling card. It was sent down to Abby too.

Gibbs decided to head down to Abby’s lab, with a Caf-Pow in hand.

“Anything?” Gibbs asked, as Abby frowned at her computer screen.

Abby turned to Gibbs, smiling and she took in the sight of Gibbs; he looked like he has lost some weight and he looked tired, and gasped quietly before composing herself and ginned at Gibbs.

“Nothing from the fingerprint tests, yet,” Abby said. “But, I have managed to decode the emails from the laptop you sent me.”

“That quickly?” Gibbs raised an eyebrow.

“I’m hurt, bossman,” Abby put a hand on her heart. “Don’t you trust in me and my Abbycadabra?” Gibbs simply rolled his eyes and stared at Abby, who grinned and went to collect some papers for him.

“It was easy to decode the emails; they were badly encrypted. It took me longer to get the password than it was to decode the encrypted emails,” Abby explained, and dropped her arms. “I mean, it was so easy to work through the encrypted emails, a child could do it!”

Gibbs interrupted Abby before she could go on and asked if there were anything in them to reveal the identity of the killer.

Abby’s face fell and shook her head.

“That’s okay, I will get McGee to work on them,” Gibbs said as he took the emails from Abby and was gone before Abby could say anything.
Abby sighed in disappointment and slumped on a stool, taking Bert, her purple hippo toy and cuddled it. It made a farting noise and Abby smiled. It was a present from Tony.

“Gibbs isn’t himself, Bert. I mean, he didn’t even say ‘good girl’ or kiss me on the cheek or forehead, like he would have, usually if I’ve done good work.” Abby was telling Bert. “I mean, what could be wrong with Gibbs?”

Gibbs seemed to have lost some weight and Tim told her that Gibbs seemed to look tired these days and has handed the keys over to either him or Ziva to drive, which was unusual of Gibbs. Abby knew that Gibbs preferred to drive himself over to crime scenes.

Abby opened her eyes and was determined to find out what was wrong with Gibbs.

Present

Abby was still in shock as she looked at the results on the screen. Just a few hours earlier, Abby secretly took the bloodied handkerchief from Gibbs after he cut his finger, and did some tests on it.

“What are you looking at?” Gibbs looked over Abby’s shoulder and she jumped and rushed to try to switch the computer off but Gibbs held her wrist and pulled her back as he went forward to see what was on the screen.

When Gibbs turned, Abby saw anger in his eyes and suddenly she went wobbly.

“You…you can’t blame me,” Abby cried. “We were all worried about you…you were not yourself, you weren’t my silver-haired fox anymore!”

Gibbs glared at Abby, angrily. “How. Did. You. Get. This?” Gibbs asked, slowly.

“I-I took the handkerchief you wrapped your finger with earlier,” Abby answered, trembling.

“You will not tell him,” Gibbs said, talking about Tony. “He does not need to know this.”

Abby protested but Gibbs continued to glare at her and eventually Abby gave in and nodded.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Abby looked hurt and Gibbs sighed. He couldn’t handle Abby looking hurt, especially when it was him who hurt her. Abby was like a daughter to him.

Gibbs put an arm around Abby and pulled her in a tight embrace and kissed her forehead. “I didn’t want to face it.”

“You got diabetes, Gibbs,” Abby said. “It doesn’t mean that you have to stop working.”

Gibbs sighed. “It could mean that I might not go out in the field anymore and I couldn’t handle that.”

Abby looked up and gave Gibbs a stern look. “You haven’t been taking care of yourself! That’s why you looked tired. Damn it, Gibbs, you will have to start looking after yourself more and not drink coffee anymore!”

Gibbs grunted; he already knew all that, but without Tony by his side, he started to let go and started to not care but seeing Abby hurt and Ducky not talking to him anymore, Gibbs began to realize that his actions didn’t just affect Tony, but other people around him.

“I promise to be more careful,” Gibbs whispered, quietly.

“You better, bossman!” Abby rested her head on Gibbs’s chest.

When McGee came in the labs later, he saw Gibbs and Abby in an embrace and trod carefully over to them.

McGee looked to Abby first when she looked up and smiled. “You okay?”

Abby nodded as she pulled away from Gibbs. “I will be if Gibbs looks after himself.”

McGee looked puzzled and was about to ask when Gibbs gave him a glare and stopped himself.

Clearing his throat, McGee turned to Gibbs.

“Boss, you should read this,” McGee handed a fax paper to Gibbs, who read it and McGee waited for some kind of a reaction from him, but when he looked up, Gibbs looked…well…Gibbs.

“Tell Ziva to pack.”

Abby stood up and stared at Gibbs. “What happened?”

“There was a massacre.”

“Related to what we’re working on?” Abby asked and Gibbs nodded, confirming it.

“Where?”

“New York.”
