Ryan looked over at Greg as they worked at processing the crime scene they'd been called to, a small smile curving his lips as he saw how Greg was concentrating on his work. He was wrapped up in what he was doing, to the exclusion of everything else.

Sometimes that single-minded concentration that Greg could display when they were working made him worry. He was used to being alert to everything around him; if he wasn't, he knew how easy it could be for an enemy to sneak up on him.

But Greg didn't have his training; his boyfriend had never been on the police force. Greg didn't even carry a gun, and there were times when that worried Ryan, too. He knew that Greg didn't like guns and didn't want to shoot anyone, but he wanted his lover to be safe.

If he lost Greg .... Ryan closed his eyes tightly for a moment, pushing that thought away from him as quickly as it coalesced into his mind. He wasn't going to lose the man he loved. Greg was safe, protected by all of the CSI team as much as he could possibly be.

Nothing was going to happen to the love of his life. Not if he had anything to say about it. He would protect Greg with his last breath, keep him safe no matter what the cost might be. It was the only thing he could do for the man he'd fallen so deeply in love with.

Now, that was a thought to make him smile, Ryan told himself as he carefully bagged a piece of evidence and glanced over at Greg again. Thinking of their meeting and how he'd fallen head over heels in love with Greg at first sight always made him happy.

He hadn't been able to stop himself from falling, and he wouldn't have, even if everyone he knew had been standing there and screaming at him not to do so. He'd wanted to let himself fall, wanted to lose himself in Greg and the wonder of discovering him.

No matter how many times he told Greg that he loved him, or heard those same words from his boyfriend, they never failed to wrap around his heart. A spark shot down his spine whenever Greg spoke those three little words, and whenever he read that emotion in Greg's eyes.

He hadn't been able to stop himself from falling in love with Greg -- and he hadn't wanted to. He had wanted to fall into the warmth of Greg's smile, the comfort of his embrace. Greg was the man he'd dreamed about all of his life, embodied in a living being.

Ryan had waited all of his life for someone like Greg to fall into his dreams -- and to walk out of his dreams and into his life. He'd never really thought that would happen, but the day that he had met Greg, all of his dreams of the perfect man had become a glorious reality.

If the life that he was leading with Greg was a dream, he wanted to keep on dreaming and never wake up. This was the life he'd always wanted -- a job he loved, a place where he felt that he fit in, and someone to love who loved him just as much in return.

All of his dreams had come true since he'd come here to Vegas, and Greg was the most important part of those dreams. Without Greg in his life, he could have everything else in the world that he wanted, but it would all still seem empty and meaningless.

He had searched all of his life for someone like Greg, someone who would fall into his dreams and make his life feel complete, but he'd never thought that he would actually find that person. Greg was his dream come true, in so many different ways.

This hadn't been what he'd planned to find when he had first made the decision to transfer to the Vegas crime lab. He had thought that he'd make a new life for himself here, but he hadn't thought for a moment that the life he'd build would include falling so deeply in love.

There were no regrets, Ryan thought with a smile. None at all. Greg had fallen into his dreams like an angel sent from above, and he could never regret falling in love with the man who owned his heart. Not when that man had made all of those dreams come vividly to life.

How could he regret the best thing that had ever happened to him? Falling in love with Greg had been his salvation, and the time that they'd been together had been the happiest months of his entire life. He hoped that happiness would last for the rest of their lives -- and beyond.

"What are you thinking?" Greg asked from across the room, rising to his feet from where he'd been kneeling and collecting evidence to look over at Ryan. "You looked really serious for just a second, then you smiled. So I guess you're thinking about something good."

"I am." Ryan stood up, too, making his way across the floor to where Greg stood to trace gentle fingertips down the softness of his boyfriend's cheek. "I was thinking about you, and how you just seemed to fall into my dreams when I came to Vegas."

"If I hadn't fallen into your dreams, then I'd still be alone, and so would you -- and neither of us would be happy," Greg said softly. "I couldn't exist without you, Ry. Well, I'd still exist if we weren't together, but I'd just be a shadow of who I am now."

"So would I, baby," Ryan murmured, leaning forward to give Greg a quick kiss. He knew that they had to be careful about that sort of thing while they were working, but he couldn't help himself. Besides, there was no one here at the moment but the two of them.

"If I had the chance to go back and do everything all over again from the day we met, I'd choose to fall into your dreams every time," Greg told him, his voice soft and loving. "There's nowhere else I want to be, Ryan. I want to stay in your dreams and in your heart. Just like you're always in mine."

"You'll always be in my dreams and in my heart," Ryan answered, the words coming out around a lump that had suddenly formed in his throat. "And in my arms. I just wish I could hold you now -- but somebody could come through that door any second."

"It won't be too much longer before we can call it a day and go home," Greg said, his voice soft and husky. "And then you can hold me all you want. And when we fall asleep, I hope I'll fall into your dreams again. And stay there for the rest of our lives."

"You will, Greg. You will," Ryan answered in a whisper, giving his boyfriend a loving look before he had to move away, just in case anyone happened to come in unexpectedly. "That I can promise you. You'll always be in my heart, in my arms, in my life -- and in my dreams."

He knew as he spoke the words that they were some of the truest he'd ever uttered. Greg would always be a part of him -- ever since the moment this man had fallen into his dreams, they'd been a part of each other, as though that had always been their destiny.

Maybe it had been, Ryan told himself as he got back to work with a small smile on his lips and a happy glow around his heart. He and Greg belonged together -- and he was sure that they would continue to fall into each other's dreams and stay there forever.
