Having your own heart broken is never easy. But being the reason why someone else's is breaking is even worse. Greg knows that because he's broken Nick's recently and he's hurting too.

He doesn't know why he did it, doesn't know what compelled him to. But after Nick was over-protective of him at a recent crime scene - berating a cop for leaving him alone and reporting to Grissom that Greg wasn't ready to be a CSI - had hurt and angered him more than ever. So he ended it.

Greg didn't need an over-protective boyfriend. One that was willing to jump a guy for following Greg's orders and going straight to the boss when he was worried for Greg's safety. He didn't need it and, to be honest, he didn't want it either.

So he packed up a bag, left a note for Nick and walked out of their apartment, drove out of Vegas and started a new life somewhere else.

Somewhere he could mend his broken heart.
