AN: So I'm reading back through the previous competitions and 'Darkness' caught my imagination. So did a verse from a song. I'm shocked at what came out, but won't keep it to myself.

***

It's months since I last opened my heart,
You rebuffed me, calling me a tart.
I stepped back into the shadows.
Protecting myself from you, Willows.

But in the depths of your widow's pain,
I reach out to you, past my shame.
Offering all I am to bring ease,
With words I know might displease.

Thoughts of you at night weeping,
Though you don't wear his ring,
Fill my mind, haunt all my days,
So I'm working in a haze.

I know your comfort will come,
When I find who pulled the gun.
But in the night, my dreams,
Show me clearly other means.

The hopes my dreams inspire,
Make me risk your ire.
The thoughts that linger still,
Let me take that bitter pill.

The silence that is your reply,
Brings a tear to my eye.
The refrain that runs without end,
"Hello darkness, my old friend."
