He Was Fine.

16.12.08

Horatio watched as Speed's coffin was lowered into the ground.

He was fine.

He didn't understand why the gunshots weren't making him flinch or throwing him back into that jewelry store. He didn't think he'd ever understand that.

He was Fine.

Horatio looked around at the people who had gathered to say goodbye to Speed.

He was fine.

Half of these people were unrecognisable. Probably friends of Speed's from his childhood or something. Horatio didn't really care. Yelina was here for some reason, though she hadn't really known Speed. Why was she here? She was looking at Horatio with pity in her eyes. He didn't need her pity. He needed Speed.

He was Fine.

Eric looked angry. A lot of people looked angry. Were they mad at Horatio? He could've done more. He knew that. Horatio was mad at himself. So maybe no one else was mad at him. When their gazes turned onto him, the anger faded and was replaced with the pity look.

He was fine.

Horatio lowered his head and trued to think back to that morning. Before the shooting, before that missing boy and before that goddamn boat.

He could vaguely recall Speed watching some cartoon and trying to make breakfast at the same time. He had ended up burning his bacon, but had laughed for a good five minuets when Horatio had pointed it out. It was one of those rare laughs that always made Horatio fall in love with him all over again.

He was fine.

But it was all gone now. The house would be empty. The lab would be empty. No more random episodes of Johnny Bravo or Scooby Doo in the mornings before work.

He was Fine.

He was Fine.

So long as he kept telling himself that.
