"I wish this wasn't our last day here," Greg sighed as he and Ryan ambled down one of the many Paris streets they'd come to know fairly well. "I almost don't want to go home."

"Neither do I," Ryan admitted with a soft laugh. "But you've got to admit, babe, if we did nothing but walk around Paris all the time, we'd get bored pretty damn quickly."

Greg had to smile at that; he knew that Ryan was right.

As much as he loved being here in Paris, he knew that if they spent much more time here, he would be itching to get back to the crime lab and go to work.

He was already starting to miss working on cases; by the time they got back to work, he'd be ready to leap in with both feet. He was energized; his batteries had been recharged.

They'd really needed this time off, and Paris had been a magical place for them. They had both been able to rest and relax, which was exactly what they had needed. Russell had done them a bigger favor than he could possibly realize by giving them this time to come here.

It had been good for them in terms of being able to relax and unwind, and it had revved up their relationship, too. Greg had to smile at that thought. He and Ryan had become .... well, much closer physically.

Not that they weren't already physically close, he told himself with another smile. But now, they were making love more than they ever had. Paris had invigorated them in that respect.

Well, they'd been working so hard at home that they were usually too tired for it.

Now, they were not only invigorated, but they had vowed to not let themselves get so burnt out again. That was the last thing they needed, both personally and professionally.

They had more to lose than most people they worked with, Greg told himself. They were still hiding their relationship, at least from Ecklie if from no one else. He was fairly sure that Russell knew about them, but as long as they were doing a good job, he wasn't going to separate them in the workplace.

Greg wished that they could be open about what they meant to each other, but he was also fairly sure that everyone already knew, and that they just weren't saying anything about their knowledge.

He hoped that was the case. That made it seem like not such a big deal.

But he wasn't going to think about that now. It was their last day in Paris, and he wanted to soak up the city, to let the magic of this beautiful place permeate his soul.

Paris was a magical place, not just for couples, but for anyone who appreciated beauty in any form. It was easy to let this place seep into his heart and soul; he knew that he would want to come back someday. He hoped that he and Ryan would be able to enjoy this place again before too long.

This would always be a place of magic and wonder for him, and his first trip here had been made even more special by being able to share it with the man he loved.

"As much as we've both loved being here, I think it's time we got back home," Ryan was saying, bringing Greg out of his thoughts and back into the moment. "I'm ready to go back to work."

Greg nodded, admitting the truth of what Ryan had said. "I'm looking forward to going back, too," he murmured, a smile curving his lips as he thought of all they would have to tell their colleagues, and all the pictures they'd be able to show off. "Everybody's going to want to hear about our trip."

"It'll be fun to tell them -- and to show off all the places we've been," Ryan said with a laugh. "And it'll be good to see Wolfie again, too. I've missed him."

Greg laughed, squeezing his boyfriend's hand. "So have I. And I bet he's missed us!"

"But he's been having a great time with Nick and Sam," Ryan pointed out, smiling. "He's had his little vacation, too. I bet he's really enjoyed having Sam around to play with."

Greg nodded, turning his head to look around them. "We've all had a good vacation," he said softly. "And ours has been rally magical. I feel the magic of this place inside me, Ryan. I know that I"m going to take that magic home with me when we go back. I'll never forget our first trip to Paris."

"It's only the first one, baby," Ryan told him, his voice very soft and husky. "There'll be more. I feel the magic of this city, too. And I want to feel it again and again. With you right by my side."

Greg had to blink back tears at those heartfelt words.

He didn't need to look at Ryan to know that there was love in his boyfriend's eyes as he spoke. And he could hear the sincerity in those words, so softly spoken.

Ryan meant every word that he'd said. Greg could almost feel the love that Ryan had for him reaching out to enfold him, to keep him safe and warm and protected.

That was part of the magic that they shared, that special magic that was just between the two of them. It was a magic that he felt every time Ryan smiled at him, a magic that seemed to flow through his veins whenever he thought of his boyfriend. It was a magic that needed no special place to bring it out.

Yes, Paris was a magical city, and they'd discovered the wonder of it while they'd been here. But they had their own personal magic that stayed with them wherever they were.

It was a magic that he would feel every day of his life, that would wrap around him at the mere thought of the man he loved. A magic that would always be there, and never fade away.

That kind of magic was one that would last forever.

As they walked along, Greg twined his fingers through Ryan's, looking around them and feeling the magic, the beauty, the ambiance of Paris overwhelm his very soul.

Yes, he felt the magic here. But the real magic lay in what he shared with the man he loved, and he would feel that particular magic every day of his life.
