Greg glanced up from where he was working in the lab, wanting to see what Ryan was doing. His boyfriend was busy cataloging some of the evidence they'd gathered at the last crime scene they'd been to, his fingers moving over the computer keyboard as though they were dancing.

He loved watching his boyfriend at work; he loved seeing Ryan concentrate on what he was doing, his gaze at the computer screen intense, his green eyes focused intensely on what he was doing. Somehow, Ryan could manage to look unbelievably sexy when he was concentrating.

He was sure that he could feel his knees weakening when he looked at Ryan; his boyfriend always had that effect on him, Greg thought with an inward smile. Ryan took his breath away; he'd never seen anyone so gorgeous in his entire life.

From the first moment he'd seen Ryan, he'd thought that his boyfriend was the most beautiful man he'd ever beheld. There had been something in Ryan's eyes during that first long look they'd shared that had draw him irrevocably towards this man, like a moth to a flame.

With that one look that they'd exchanged when they had first met, Ryan had left him breathless. And he could still do so with just one look, with only one smile, or one touch. Ryan would always have the ability to take his breath away, to turn his world upside down.

No one else had ever managed to have such an effect on him, Greg thought, propping his chin on his hands as he watched his boyfriend work. No one else ever could -- because no one else could ever be to him what Ryan was. Ryan wasn't just the man he loved; Ryan was a part of his heart and soul.

Just looking at Ryan like this left him breathless; if his boyfriend knew that he was being watched, then he would more than likely turn around and smile, making Greg's heart flutter in his chest, and making him feel that he couldn't go one more second without touching Ryan.

How could one person affect him so much, to the point where everything else in his life -- even when he was at work, and should be concentrating on something other than his relationship -- flew out of his head and all he could think about was how much in love he was?

Just one look could still leave him breathless, even though he and Ryan had been together for quite a while now. Ryan didn't even have to look at him with lust, or with that "come hither" expression that Greg knew so well. All he had to do was fix that intense green gaze in Greg's direction, and ....

Greg shook his head, trying to pull himself out of the dreamlike fantasy he'd started to slide into, but it was harder to do than he'd realized it would be. All he could think of was that look in Ryan's eyes, drawing him nearer -- then Ryan's hands on his body and those lips on his.

Greg closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and pushing those thoughts away. He couldn't think about Ryan in that way, not now, not while they were at work. When they were at home together, then he could lust after his boyfriend all he wanted to -- but this wasn't the time or the place.

Still, he could watch Ryan to his heart's content while his lover worked; Ryan was so immersed in what he was doing that Greg was sure he hadn't realized that he was being observed. He loved watching Ryan; the innate grace of his boyfriend's movements was mesmerizing.

Greg's breath caught in his throat as his love for Ryan swelled in his heart; all he wanted to do at this moment was to go over to where his boyfriend was sitting, wrap his arms around the man he loved, and press a kiss to his lips, simply to show him that he was loved.

But of course, Ryan already knew that he was loved, he told himself firmly. And this was neither the time nor the place for him to do something like that; showing their affection for each other so openly at work would be taking a risk that they couldn't afford to take.

Showing their personal intimacy at work would be a sure-fire way to get them put on probation, if not fired. Greg didn't think that Ecklie would go so far as to get rid of them, not when the department was overworked and understaffed, but they'd be in a lot of trouble.

As much as he hated not being able to be honest with his colleagues about the true nature of his relationship with Ryan, he knew that they'd have to wait until that stupid rule about co-workers on the same shift dating each other was lifted. And that might never happen, he thought with a soft sigh.

But just thinking about being able to do that could also take his breath away. That would be a wonderful day when -- and if -- it finally arrived; he was almost giddy just thinking of how it would feel to finally be able to tell everyone he worked with that he was in love with Ryan.

His boyfriend shifted slightly in his chair, making Greg wonder if he did indeed realize that he was being watched. But Ryan didn't turn around; he simply cleared his throat and went back to his work, the distraction only being momentary. He probably didn't even realize that Greg was in the room.

He didn't mind that, Greg told himself, smiling at the thought. This just gave him more of an opportunity to look at his beautiful boyfriend -- and to weave even more elaborate fantasies about him. Though this, of course, wasn't exactly the most propitious time to be thinking in that direction.

Still, just being able to watch Ryan was good enough for him. Each movement, each intense green stare of concentration at the objects he was cataloging, was enough to take Greg's breath away. When they were at home tonight, that intense stare would be on him ....

He was going there again, Greg thought, sighing yet again and pushing himself away from his desk. He had to stop staring at Ryan and start concentrating on his own work, or they wouldn't get much of anything done today. This case was important; he had to focus on his work.

Moving across the room on silent feet, he went to stand behind Ryan, wondering if his boyfriend would notice that he was standing there. Sometimes, when Ryan was immersed so deeply in his work, everything else seemed to be shut out as though it wasn't even there.

But not this time, he discovered when Ryan turned around to smile at him. That smile was all it took to leave Greg breathless; his dark eyes widened, the words that he'd been planning to speak dying in his throat. For just a moment, he felt stunned, his mind unable to form a coherent thought.

"Hey, baby," Ryan said softly, keeping his voice low even though there was no one else in the lab at the moment. "Finished with what you were doing? I'm almost done with this -- I was wondering if you wanted to grab something to eat once I'm done."

"Sounds good to me," Greg said with a smile. He could barely get the words out; he felt breathless, unable to speak, the words lodged in his throat. How was it that Ryan could still have such an effect on him? How could this man take his breath away on such a regular basis?

"What are you thinking about?" Ryan asked, tilting his head to the side with another smile at his boyfriend. "You look awfully serious. I hope there's nothing about the case that's really bothering you -- because this one seems pretty open and shut. I hope it'll stay that way."

He didn't have to wonder why Ryan had such an effect on him. It was love, Greg told himself. Love, pure and simple. No one else had ever made him feel like this because he'd never loved anyone else. And he loved Ryan, more than he could possibly begin to put into words.

"You," he said softly, feeling breathless and giddy again. "I'm thinking about you, and how much I love you." And with those words, he was left breathless again -- until all he could do was lean forward to brush a kiss across Ryan's cheek, not caring if the entire world might be watching.
