Ryan couldn't help smiling as he glanced towards the door of the lab, hoping that Jesse would come in soon. The lunch break that the two of them had taken seemed to have passed by in a dream; he'd never been so happy in his entire life.

It was still hard for him to believe that Jesse felt so strongly about him. It was like a dream come true, a dream that he hadn't thought could possibly become reality.

Yet it had, somehow. He'd been in a haze of happiness all through that brief lunch break, yet he could remember every second of it, every subject they'd talked about. Most of all, he could remember Jesse's smile, lighting up the entire room with its brightness.

That smile was like the sun coming out after a rainy day.

His life had been so cloudy for so long; Jesse's smile had burst through those clouds and dissipated them forever. He hoped those clouds would never come back; he'd had enough of being lonely and wishing that he could find someone to love.

Jesse had been the answer to that wish. He'd known from the first time their eyes had met, the first time he'd seen that smile, that he could fall head over heels in love with this man. It had happened so quickly; he hadn't even attempted to resist.

All it had taken was one look, one smile, and he'd been hooked. He hadn't intended to let himself fall so hard or so fast, but it had been impossible to stop. And, wonder of wonders, it seemed that Jesse felt the same way about him. It was unbelievable.

This had already been a red-letter day, a day that would go down in history as the best twenty-four hours of his life, Ryan told himself with an inward smile. And it wasn't even over yet. Tonight, he would spend more time with Jesse -- and anything could happen.

There was no telling where they would go from here.

He wanted to be with Jesse tonight, to wake up with him in the morning. He wanted to open his eyes and see that gorgeous face on the pillow next to him, and see Jesse's smile, like the sun coming up to brighten his day. He wanted to wake up like that for the rest of his life.

Ryan had no doubt that he would be waking up to the sight of Jesse next to him for a long time to come. If he was lucky, he'd wake up to that sight forever.

His own smile blossomed as Jesse came into the room; Ryan could feel it spreading over his face. Jesse's smile answered his, a ray of sunshine brightening up his day. No matter how many times he saw that smile, Ryan told himself, it would always take his breath away.
