Ryan sighed contentedly as he lay back against the pillows with Greg in his arms. He didn't know why he had awakened in the middle of the night, but for once, it hadn't been a nightmare that had stolen him from his sleep. There was no bad feeling, no panic.

No, there was only a happy contentment, one that he'd felt ever since the first time he'd held Greg in his arms. Maybe that was why he'd woken up; maybe he just needed to be able to lie here and savor that contentment in his conscious mind.

Being here with Greg, holding him, loving him, was the first time in his entire life that he'd ever been completely happy.

For him, being in love -- and being loved in return -- was paradise.

He had spent so much of his time in Miami searching for the kind of love that he had with Greg, and feeling that he would never find it. When he had come here to Vegas, he'd had every intention of making a whole new life for himself -- one that didn't include love.

He had honestly thought that he'd given up looking for that. Love didn't seem to be in the cards for him; it had felt as though he was always going to be on the outside looking in, yearning for something that he could never have.

Everyone else seemed to easily able to find someone to love, but every person that he'd chosen to be with had ended up only wanting to use him. Ryan had begun to feel as though he was a sort of parish, doomed to spend his life alone and unloved.

Those intentions had crashed to the ground at his first sight of Greg. He hadn't believed in love at first sight then, but he'd quickly changed his mind. He had fallen head over heels, and he never wanted to get up again. He was right where he belonged.

This was indeed paradise for him. Who would have thought it?

Vegas might not be the kind of place that most people termed a paradise -- unless they were gamblers. He was, but this time, he had gambled with his heart.

And he had won more than he would ever have dreamed possible. He had found happiness, security, and the love of his life, none of which he would trade for all the riches in the world. He was rich beyond measure, just because he had Greg in his life.

With another contented sigh, Ryan closed his eyes, sinking more deeply into the comfortable pillows. In just a few moments, he was asleep, still holding Greg clasped close to his heart, pleasant dreams of the future they would share ensnaring him for the night.
